Hi; I saw a thread yesterday that asked about /pol/'s thoughts on Venezuela's situation. As a fellow venezuelanfag I felt really good at reading all the support from people round here.

As many of you know, Venezuela is living a terrible crisis on... Well, basicly everything. We have no security, no justice, no electricity, no food, no medicines and pretty much no future. I was born in 1997, one year before Chavez was elected President. I've never seen how a democracy really is, I've only heard stories about how better things were back when Chavez wasn't in the politcal agenda; everyone says "It wasn't perfect, but it was better than this"

Anyway, I actually might die today or tomorrow or whatever. I have no way to know what will happen and, I'm not gonna lie, I fear for my own future and my beloved one's too.

I resolved to, unlike other venezuelan youngsters, stay here and fight until they leave the government or until I die. Young people have already died, some have been tortured and pursued. Sad thing is that history might forget their names eventually and their sacrifice be forgotten.

So for that reason, I came here to share with you stories from what's going on down here. So my story doesn't gets forgotten by the world, so my words stay with, at least, those who are reading this.

Hi; I'll start off answering your question. As a matter of fact, I'll answer all questions you want :).

I have been a political activist since my whole life. My parents were and are today. Dad got expelled from college after the goverment pinpointed him as a leader of opossition in the early days of Chavez' regime. Historically, students are threats to dictatorships in this country; they overthrown Marcos Perez Jimenez and Juan Vicente Gomez.

I received my first taste at tear gas when I was 5 years old, during the coupe of 2002; was walking down the street, some opossition suporters where singing the national anthem; mom was with me and recognized some friends, went closer to say hi; the National Guard showed up and started shooting at us. We ran; barely got it out. I have a scar on my arm, mom says it was a rubber bullet that got me slightly; nothing serious, thankfully.

I've been in almost every political process as a volunteer; I now am part of Voluntad Popular, a political party of oposition. Just a week ago I was a volunteer for the revocatory referendum sign request.

I've also participated in almost every march, walk, protest, etc. In my city. I've read Gene Sharp's manual on defeating dictatorships and I believe in the power of non-violent political struggle.

Calma, calma.

Venezuela. You guys are much better than Cuba. Have a lot more than Cuba. Couldve had it all. Except you guys fell for the order of death. See when Fidel took power he made sure to get some of Cubas past and burn it and today Cubas history reflects more on united states history than it ever did with latin america. It is said venezuela separated with 6 other countries at the time of independence. But everyone says it is not so because the academic depts and internet say is not true. Get the name Columbia and use this number 3 2 2. Keep the C and use the numbers to Locate the position of letters within the word...C U B A.

The problem is. we're fighting a system which makes the poor believe the goverment are their allies, only those that manage to somehow climb themselves out of poverty start to see all the obstacles the goverment places so you stay ignorant and poor. Which makes them easy to brainwash and handle.

I will start off sharing a photo that represents my daily routine.

What you see there is a bus in Caracas, capital of my country and my birthplace. The people hang from the doors because there is no room and there aren't enough units to cover the population of travelers. This is an everyday routine to go to college and work.

I actually live in Valencia, the Industrial city of Venezuela. Things are way worst here, cause in Caracas they have a Subway/Metro that helps covering the demand. Here we have Metro too, but it works awfully ineficiet.

The reason for this is that there are no spare parts for cars and buses in the country; industrial productions are crashing, cause the only company that makes iron/steel materials is at goverment hands; it works awfully. The materials needed then, must be bought outside, and only the goverment can use USD to buy stuff. So repairs are very costly, which also causes that prices skyrocket. A good part of the minimum wage at Venezuela is spent only in transportation.

How can you support non violent measures at this point?

In Australia and I assume Venezuela on farms if you have a dog it's a working dog, a tool. Government is that dog. If the dog no longer can work you replace the dog. If it's a good dog you buy it a blanket and let it sit around all day in the sun.

But if the dog is insane or rabid or attacks stock you get a gun and you shoot the dog.

It's the oldest relationship with a living tool man has, and people have always dealt with dogs and governments the same way.

I doubt non violence like Ghandi will work because your tyrant is domestic not foreign.

Actually; we have gun control now that you bring it up. But it doesn't work.

Malandros (the term we use for common criminals) are equiped with shotguns, SMG's, Ak-47's, M4's, M16's, AR-15's, Aug's, and grenades.

State and city cops only have 9 mm handguns and are allowed one shotgn per 10 officers by law. Only the armed forces can use bigger firepower, and an exception for tactical response teams; which are not even a threat to common bands.

I used to live near Cota 905 (google it; scary shit). Lived in a rancho, which is a house constructed poorly in a slum. I'm used to hearing shots all night long, it´s even normal. Which is a statement of how fucked up things are.

That's a picture from Cota 905; near my old home. It was during some thing they called OLP "Operación de Liberación del Pueblo" (Operation for the Liberation of People). It's a show they make every now and then, they send all the helicopters, tanks and hollywood action movie stuff to play like if they were dismembering the bands.

Doesn't work, after they pull out, there are no coherent adiotional policies to assure criminals don't come back to these communities. Also, they have been acused of Human Rights violations in several times.

this is precisely what I'm dreading; why I'm for Trump. Even if I don't always perfectly align with him, I know that I'm more aligned with him than I would ever be with someone who still deludes themselves in believing socialist policies.
When I was younger I got a laugh out of the saying "when you're young you vote democrat, when you're old you vote republican."
Now I really see why. It's not so much youth that gets people to vote for leftist policies. It's immaturity, and some people truly never mature into self-actualizers. And I see a whole generation of them growing in America, deluded and immature and believing in policies and systems that have proven themselves for a hundred years in so many countries to never work.
The sooner Sanders and his claims are gone and out of the public mind, the better.

The thing that Latin America was missing, that the US had, was English common law tradition, which imposes limits on the powerful while facilitating meritocratic competition. If the Spanish speaking world adopted English common law as a model they would be like the US.

I'll continue sharing stories from Venezuela; let´s talk now about the hard process of getting food.

What you see there is just a fragment of the lines we have to make to get food.

There are three ways to get food here:

We make lines at supermarkets and stores to get products at "Fair price"; a frozen price the government keeps for political porpuses. As you may supose, it is far below the actual manufacturing cost. The lines are made since 3 o'clock in the morning. We sleep in front of the business to try and get the right spot, if we make it later, we might not get any food. Worst part is, that if the cops show up, they'll chase you and jail you because, after a few months, the Gov made illegal lines during early hours of the night; it looked bad for them, so they hide the problem under the rug.

Also, you can only buy food one time a week, they use finger print identification to assure you don't. They only sell you around 1 or 2 packages of rice/pasta/flour/etc.

The other way is through the infamous "bachaqueros". They sell products at a high value, like 10 times it's original price. Some are so well organized that they form networks with social media and stuff. Some even show up ith guns and shoot their way through supermarkets to take the food away. Cops and army officers do this too.

The other way is to trade with other people. Social media is used to organize clubs where we can trade what we have for things we need. If you have a toothpaste and you need dehodorant, you can trade with someone who has it. This is dangerous too, many cases of kidnappings and murders during these meetings.

I used to be middle-high class; was low class for part of my life. Parents did a lot of work to get us out of the pit. I used to eat 3 times a day, usual stuff. I only eat one time a day now; sometimes I don't even get to eat.

English common law tradition and American Cobstitutionalism is the only system with limitation, with negative rights.
Every other system puts you at the mercy of the powerful because it has the state solving everything.
If you adopted American Constitutionalism, then every able bodied man aged 18 to 46 in your country would be an armed and experienced reason not to invade.

Every word of this man is sadly true. Another story for you:

Because of the coming hyperinflation and the constant raise of prices, and the progressive loss of value of our money, we're recurring to ''barter'' yes, you read it, barter. As our ancestors in the middle age, even, Chávez in one of his crazy thoughts on his famous tv show, he said: ''We need to retake the barter as a form of transaction, the money must disappear''

And we laughed hard at the fact, and we didn't believe it, and yet, here we are.

OP, while I applaud your desire to "stay and fight" for country and freedom (which is more admirable than others who just want an easy ticket out), I feel that you are underestimating the situation.

The problem with your country isn't just political; it's economic. Specifically, its the phenomena known as the oil curse and Dutch disease. It's an incredibly hard situation to escape from, especially if it's gotten bad to the extent it has in Venezuela.

Oil accounts for over 90% of exports, for Christ's sake, and whatever oil productivity you did have started crashing after Chavez took direct control of PDVSA and turned it into a regime piggy bank. Now there are entrenched groups/individuals/etc. who derive rents from the status quo, and they would oppose change that hurts their interests. This is literally the same reason why Carlos Andres Perez: everyone turned against him when he tried to implement his reform program, including his own party (party activists were outraged that technocrats were appointed to economic ministries, denying them access to favors and rents to which they had gotten accustomed to).

The pink tide is finally receding. A lot of it was propped up by Chavez and his oil deals.

Let's talk about electricty.

That beauty you have there is Central Hidroeléctrica Raúl Leoni (commonly know as El Guri). It is our primary source of electricity, it covers 60% of the demand. Kinda feel proud of it, it's the 3rd most important energy plant in it's kind and is a green energy used since decades. It used to make us believe that we were destined to be South America's vanguard on tecnology and development.

Today, El Niño has made the lake really dry; water levels dropped. But that's not the only reason we're having electrical problems.

The Gov vanished billions of USD's that were meant for a thermoelectric network of power plants, because we knew that dry days were comming. The plants are in ruins now. Also, there are reports that the gov is letting the water levels on Guri drop on porpuse to extract gold and other materials from the lake's bottom.

Floods endager nearby towns. We fear that Guri could be scarred for a long time due to this.

Now, we have 4 hours of blackouts per day and we fear it'll get worst (it started off with only 2 hours). They also made fridays non-working days for public enterprises and offices, and schools too. The public offices only work mondays and tuesdays. Two days a week only.

Some experts claim that major blackouts will strike us in the near future. They talk about 12 hours a day without electricity and so on.

You know what the worst part is though? While Maduro is an idiot in many respects, he at least understands one of the most valuable rules of dictatorship: always pay your key supporters (usually the men with guns) just enough that they stick with you. He's been doing so very well on this front, and could remain in power for awhile if he plays it right.

A few examples:

In February, Maduro put the military in in charge of a new state oil and mining services company:
...which is but one of a dozen or so military enterprises started under his administration:
Active or former officers head about one-third of the country's ministries and govern nearly half its 23 states:
Some service members have gotten big raises; preferential access to housing, cars and food; and promotions:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-09-29/venezuelan-army-enjoys-meat-to-cars-denied-most-citizens

I could go on, but you get the idea. Point is being that this is going to go on until the armed forces feel that Maduro can no longer pay them rents (in whatever form that takes) or can no longer guarantee their business interests. At which point, it becomes a free for all and we'll see a coup d'etat. Usually the first one to take over the treasury and consolidate control quick enough is the winner.

If you want real change, then you have to tear pretty much most of the system by the roots. Otherwise it'll be a regime change with a reversion to the norm within a few years. Just see Egypt as an example.
>>
I think that's why our society must head toward. But i don't see that coming, the venezuelans just want more welfare and still living in slums with crooks and shit.

I recommend that you fight with our leftist/communists on Twitter about what is happening in Venezuela. Even after Chavez died Democracy Now was describing any opposition to the government as fascists. A man on the communist radio station KPFK in Los Angeles only two years ago bragged about how he helped Chavez get elected in 1998.

The left has gone quiet over Venezuela because things are bad but need to have their faces rubbed in the evidence of how bad it is.

If there's one thing I've learned living in a corrupt part of world filled with petty, shortsighted people it's that the only thing you want to do is take care of yourself and your family.

If shit hits the fan join whatever political party emerges victorious. Don't be swayed by ideals and think you can change or help your countrymen. Three words, Venezuelabro.
STOP.
SUBSIDISING.
FUEL.

You can fill a 20 gallon car for what, 15 cents?
Go to the States and it's more like 40/50 dollars. And that's cheap as fuck. Here in Ireland, with the exchange rate factored in, a 20 gallon tank (90 odd litres @ €1.24 per litre -- €112 --) costs 127 dollars.
For one tank.

And this is after the crash. When oil was more expensive, we were essentially paying "ten dollar gas". $200 dollars for one fucking tank of fuel. Thanks to price and taxes. I would LOVE to see Yanks survive on that....

But the point I'm making is if you want money, you're just going to have to generate it from fuel usage. It's quite simply the only way a society can function.
>>

I support the stopping of subsiding. Although, when gov raised fuel prices, it hit really hard on our pockets. I know it needed to be dne, but if I were on the gov, I would have cut off public expenses by eliminating unnecesary ministeries (belive me, we have way too many); military budget (which we don't actually need) and lose-win trade treaties with other southam countries.

Most of it, I would cut off Cuba's oil supply. Damn I would

Eh, political/economic analysis is part of my day job. Y la familia is de Costa Rica, entonces tengo que saber sobre la region.

I don't want to be ~that~ guy, but history paints a pretty clear picture of where this train is going. A recovery would take years, if not decades, and that depends on people doing the right thing.

But so long as there is an ocean of oil to exploit, combined with an easily manipulated populace and other factors, there is incentive for rentier behavior. And so long as that is in place, people are going to stop at nothing to make money from the country, even if it harms the long-term prospects. Not just domestically, but foreign.

>>73441484
Doesn't help you guys bleed dollars when you send officials abroad to buy foreign goods to import and sell at a discount (price controls), but are also losing even more money because that official is probably overpaying (read: corruption in conjunction with that foreign accomplice).

So yay, you all just paid $20 for X amount of wheat that is supposed to cost $10, but you're selling it domestically at $3. That's a $17 loss that is covered up by oil money, assuming there is enough. Oh, and producing wheat domestically costs $5, so since locals can't compete they shut down.

I swear, I'm amazed that people keep thinking this sort of thing is a smart idea.

Located at Maracaibo's lake, latam's biggest lake, it is a symbol for the people of Zulia and Maracaibo, the country's most populated city.

That is actually a horrible story.... Can't speak for other cities, but here in Valencia we get our water from Pao Cachinche, a small artificial lake south of the city. It's conected to Cabriales river that runs through the city and is connected to Valencia's lake through a tunnel the gov dig up.

You see, Valencia's lake is our second biggest lake. Next to it's shore were large crop fields for bananas and sugar; private property. To get reference, Valencia and it´s sorroundings are Venezuela's main industrial zone; deep demographyshit. The lake has been growing because the industrial/city waste of over 200 towns go there. It didn't matter back then, cuz we had treatment plants for it.

Chavez expropiated the crop fields like 2005 more or less. The fields got abandoned after that; they used lots of water, taken from the lake, which helped keeping control of the level of the water.

Without that, the lake started to grow. The gov got worried and built the tunnel I mentioned before. But they haven't mantained our treatment plants since years, they're deserted now.

So, not only the lake is highly polluted by human feces and industrial waste, not only it's rising and has already swallowed many houses and even towns; but also, the polluted water from the lake is driven into our houses in the city without any filters except for dangerous levels of Cl and Al

pic related: Those are the pillars of La Cabrera Bridge, our main contact with Caracas (very important). It's being damaged by the water of the lake; no gov response yet; we fear the worst. BTW; the green stuff, is water.

My grandparents are both Portuguese, but when they were young they moved to Venezuela and built a business and a nice life from scratch, in Maracai if Im not mistaken. My mom and uncle were born in Venezuela and moved back to Portugal some time after the crash of the based New State dictatorship (rip Portuguese Empire).

As a kid it was always my and my counsin's dream to visit venezuela and have a nice time there. It deeply saddens my grandfather to see the state the beautiful country he left behind is in right now. We did it gladly; I have lots of friends who are child of italians, portuguese, spanish, etc. I hope we can be that land of hope again. I hope your grandfather can come back one day with you and you'll see what all those tears are about.

In Venezuela racism is not an Iissue my friend we were very happy before, and actually racist jokes were not a big deal because deep inside we knew it was just a joke and some times a demonstration of affection like " my negra" or " my negro".

We never experience real racism like in other parts of the world. Believe me the least racist people is in countries like Venezuela.

5: Hotel Humboltd

Located at the top of the Avila peak, the National Park that guards the city of Caracas from the north, it was built on the late 50's as a tourism atractive by Marcos Pérez Jiménez. He was overthrown two years later, but the building became a symbol. It is preceded by a colonial cobblestone road in which vendors sell traditional candies and touristfag stuff. It's been abandoned by the current regime.

Don't joke yourself, there's racism in Venezuela.

If you are a white you are a sifrinito hijo de papi y mami, If you are black then you are a negro mojino pelo malo, if you are brown skinned then that automatically makes you a malandro or a tuki.

I more than once got into fights by people trying to shit on me calling me negro de mieda and stuff of the sort. Tone and intend change everything. Sometimes even those "jokes" go for so long they start to become something else.

And let's not go into names. Because I'm sure no one from here thinks of anything good when first meeting someone and he presents himself as "Yonaikel" or "Yusdeyska"

Discrimination is a very lively aspect here.

Also, Venezuelans also fucking love to shit on latinos of other nationalities here too.

6: France Square

Also know as Altamira Square or Liberty Square, this is one of my favourite places in the world. Used tospend childhood here, doing skateboard and eating icecream.

It's gardens and monuments are beautiful. It was part of a treaty with the french; we would have a France Square in Caracas and them would build a Venezuela Square in Paris.
It is split by the most important avenue of the eastern part of the city, named after our second biggest national hero Generalísimo Francisco De Miranda (big fan here).

Sad part is, this square has witnessed the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands of anti.regime fighters. It is the main symbol of our resistance movement; at the level that one of it's wing it's named after it.

This is were I got my first tear gas, this is were that rubber bullet hit me. This is where I would like to die if I had to do so by the hand of the regime.

7: The Resistance

I don't know who he is; I don't know if he's still alive. I just know this picture gets me every time. Don't get me wrong, I've been in that kind of situationl. Remember one time we took over a highway and the National Guard came after us.

But anyways; we are resisting, we are dying, we are fighting, we are suffering... But one day, we'll defeat them... Even if we have to make them drown on our blood

You are buying the hate propaganda, maybe you are making reference to the classicism which is not related to any color of skin.

No body says "Negro de mierda" until they have done something to upset them. No body think that you are a "tuki" because you are brown skinned, they think you are a "tuki" because of the way to dress or behave, "tukis" can be white, brown or black.

There is not black neighborhood, brown or white neighborhoods, Muslim neighborhoods , Asian neighborhoods and so on.

In the school you make friend without distinguish about the color of the skin. there is not real segregation about race and color.

If you are planning to study here you need a lot of money, and find a job as well.

Historically, Violent outcomes tend to guide us into even worse scenarios than the original dictatorshit (if even possible). Plus, you've seen how Libia, Egypt, Syria, Ukraine, Balkans etc turned out.

I'm no fool, I know we ain't getting to vote this motherfucker out, but we can reduce the minimum life loss by using non violent measures to fight the regime. Really recommend Gene Sharp's work, it´s a must read for people in my situation.

>You are buying the hate propaganda
No. These all are things I've seen and lived and even suffered myself.

>maybe you are making reference to the classicism which is not related to any color of skin.
Fair enough point. That's why added discrimination later on in my post. Still, I disagree with you regarding color of skin not affecting this at all.

>There is not black neighborhood, brown or white neighborhoods, Muslim neighborhoods , Asian neighborhoods and so on.
>there is not real segregation about race and color.
True as well. That's why I agreed it was not like the racism in other countries.

Look, I mostly agree with you regarding how mixed this place is and how race mostly doesn't affect things. But saying there's no racism and discrimination here is utter bullshit.

Fair point; you're both right. Although, lately the biggest discrimination goes between pro-regime vs. resistancefags. So it's more of a political segregation, and in many ways, it's our own kind of moderated Apartheid.

Storytime again kids!

Imagine to have a family member, say, your brother sufering from deadly illness. He dies.

Now, u say "I knew he could die, it's a mortal decease" But that's not the worst part of it.

He died, not because the doctors didn't want to save him, not because they didn't try harder, not because they were negligent.

He died, not because the medicine or treatment he needs doesn't exists yet; not because is rare. Not because he got medical attention too late.

He died because, a medicine/treatment that he needed and that's not even that rare or hard to find under normal conditions, couldn't be found anywhere. You posted it on twitter, you call the newspaper, you called everyone you knew, you walked through every drugstore on town. But the damn medicine is not there.

The cause? National production crashed and there are no USD's to buy it outside. Only the gov can make the call.

Now, the new Parliament managed to get WHO give a humanitary aid shipment to Venezuela. The shipment never made it here, the President forbid it cuz "We ain't need no medicine; we socialist madafaka"

The said parliament is about to aprove a "Humanitary crisis act" to fight the situation; the gov's representatives agreed after negotiating a name change to "Things are bad, but not that bad act"... President Maduro calls parliament leader for the gov. He ordered not to aprove. It's aproved anyways, we have majority. Supreme Court of Justice calls it "Inconstitutional" just like every single act/law ever since the new oposition-controled parliament got installed.

Your brother died, because some scumbag wanted to keep his image. How would you feel?

Dead you are no good to your country, learn when to retreat, rest, regroup and reffit, train, gain skills, etc, you can't do that there, you can do that here... come to the deep south, you can learn a lot of skills from the right people, skills which will later serve you to fight for your country

What you are doing is madness, you will be another forgotten martyr who won't even slow down the national guard
>>
>>73449064

it is inevitable

you can be a sacrifice or you can work towards victory

on the other hand, I don't see Russia giving up on Venezuela either, so it may indeed turn into another Syria or Ukraine

best thing is to get to safety, unless you have a death wish

ww3 is coming. you are working to save what will soon be ashes? save yourself and your family. do what you can
>>
Probably will have to leave soon; electricity just went of; this will last 4 hours. My laptop won't last a lot. Will post until I can't. But anyway, I really apreciate what happened here today. You guys really helped getting my faith and strenght a morale boost tonight.

Wherever you are, protect your freedom; don't believe in fake saviors, don't buy shit from politicians.

Live every day like it's the last, just like I do. It's the only way to be happy here, cause I might die tomorrow.

PD: Not kidding. There is a murder every 20 minutes in Venezuela. 51 deaths a day. 28K a year, only by murder. 98% of murderers are not punished. And if a malandro doesn't get me, illnes, crazy traffic, political repression, falling off a fucking bus at the highway, etc. Will surely do.

Really, live your life like it's your last day. And be thankful for what you have. I am, I thank every day that I'm not as bad as Middle Eastfags. And I cry every now and then for those who, in here in Venezuela, suffer a lot more than me.

My family is here. I have 30.000.000 million relatives. Brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers.

Your advice is wise, and I hope to have the chance to follow it. I wish to go outside and prepare myself, learn things and bring them here to improve the life quality of my brothers and sisters.

But until I get a ticket and a destination. I will fight, cause if I die, at least I'll know I stood for what I believed. A better society, a better country, a better world.
>>
The key to success as a nation is conquest, and then draining resources and capital from the people you've subjugated. Why do you think Europe and America is so wealthy? The money comes from around the world, India, Asia, Africa. If you would try to apply that you would learn how to prosper. But you won't so you will remain poor and inept.
