I've got an uncle who's literally the embodiment of this stereotype. Retired, visiting sanatoriums all the time, reading Wyborcza and praising the good old times of communism. He even invited me to go on a KOD manifestation together.
The only difference with him is that he's not an absolute lowly drone. He knows what's up and cares only about the highest possible benefits. His sanatorium stories involve intrigue and lies that always lead to him having the best spot in the whole place. Over the years of travelling and residing in the toppest of apartments he got quite close to high-ranking leftists and often hangs out with them in concerts and operas. All of it is documented on photos that he gladly tosses around family meetings, so it's not like he's just lying to me.
