If it meets the legal definition of a 501(c) non-profit organization, it doesn't get taxed. I don't see the problem here.

Just because an organization is tax-free doesn't mean it can't have large/elaborate buildings, or its employees can't be independently wealthy or have large homes. It just means that profits if there are any have to be invested back in the business, as opposed to divvied out among owners, shareholders, etc.

And I can guarantee that most churches do far more to help out the poor and underprivileged than many other 501(c)'s.

In theory seperation of church and state is a good idea and the church's should not have to pay taxes.

But this isn't how it's happening. The church, espcially Catholics play an active role in politics, as a result they need to pay their fair share: you're asking for a free lunch.

Separation of church and states works on the principle that the church stays out of politics and thus doesn't pay taxes. Thats what "No Taxation without Representation" means.

Church leaders opening promote politics of one kind or another and provide basically unofficial endorsements or disapproval of various politicians. Many political groups outright state they are acting in the interest of a certain church or religion. This is representation, so there must also be taxation.

Part of the money that the "charity" goes to involves keeping the Vatacin and various Bishops afloat. These people, escpially the Pope go all around various countries playing politics. Right now the "charity" money is going towards helping the Pope tell every nation in Europe to break down their boarders.

So this is not at true charity, it's a merger of a real charity with a political orginztion. As a result of it's blatant politics that should be taxed too. Using charity as a tax shield to hide behind is disguesting and dishonest.

It's your call whether you want your religion to play by the rules of separation of church and state (which means staying out of politics). It is the church that has decided to try to cheat the system; if you want to play politics pay the entrance fee like everyone else. If you don't want to pay get out of politics.

That non-profit is hosted by a sovereign authority abroad and wouldn't be taxed in that respect to begin with. Charities have agendas which motivate how they act and they speak about their agendas. Is there an issue.

>It's your call whether you want your religion to play by the rules of separation of church and state (which means staying out of politics).

It's either no taxation without representation or the opposite. If you prefer them being there, then you have the accept it wholesale.

But I'm out for now. Have to go to work.
>>
>>73309536
well, it's funny because I am catholic and in Austria there is no such a stadium structure for most of these religious events. those places usually get rented for esoterics and sects and then they have a whole convention built around that, if anything. I don't think the roman catholic church does a similar thing here. at least I'm not aware of it.

Suppose I started my own charity. 90% goes to feed puppies, 10% goes straight into the pockets of a political group. Would you say I am staying out of politics?

What the church does is use charity as a shield from which behind it plays politics in some of the most dirty ways possible. It has intionally twisted it so that is very difficult to seperate the politics from the charity. You donate to maintain a church which on Sunday gives out free food but at the same time has gatherings in which the preacher exposes politics of some kind or another and says that it is "holy" to side with one a certain political stance.

This is an intentional attempt to cheat the system by bundling them together. It's your call, either get out of politics and run a charity or play the game and pay the ticket fee.
>>
>>73309544
You seem to be misunderstanding the whole thing about the separation of church and state. Having and advocating a certain set of political belief's is not the same thing as having representation. If you tax the church, they then have the means to have DIRECT power in government affairs. As in they can LOBBY for certain positions instead of just advocating them. Learn what the fuck you're talking about before you start typing.

There is just as much liberal politics in the Christianity as there is conservative, for example mainline Protestants, Uniterian Universialists, Reform Judaism. On the Catholic side it's even more Liberal post v2, with the current head of the church being a Proggresvist.

>Jesus and Joseph were refugees
>Mai Liberation theory
>Jesus would be socalist

The Old religions are self-destructing. The only reason liberal attacks are even effective is because the church in so many eras no longer has the will to live. The church of the old would have swatted away these attacks like flys, now they forfeit without a fight.

Yeah I'm kind of dumbfounded how Catholics think they can say protestants are "straying off the path" when Protestantism was basically originally conceived because Martin Luther felt the church and all it's non-scriptural practices and traditions was straying from the path.

Christ never commanded Christians to practice the Eucharist in rituals after doing it once, and he certainly never said that if you do it yourself you will also perform the miracle of turning wafers and wine into the literal body and blood of Christ. Christ never commanded his followers to adorn their chapels and churches with gaudy ornamentation and decoration.

Catholics strayed from the path, not protestants, protestants PROTESTED because the church was straying from the path.

With my own, fairly unbiased atheist viewpoint, I have been studying all the Abrahamic religions and offshoots out of mere curiosity. Not with a critical eye but an intrigued one. I have come to the conclusion that Christianity has the biggest wealth of evidence supporting it and that protestants adhere to scripture more than anyone else. A protestant baptist is often depicted as the christian fundamentalist/radical god hates fags type of christian and it is true. They shamelessly stick to every word of scripture and they never go back on it or expand upon it. If any were Abraham's chosen people today it would be protestant baptists.
