I didn't drop out but i didn't graduate. Not stupid either, 1310 out of 1600 on SAT. I knew everything but didn't do the work. I was a fuck up. One credit short. Signed up for summer school to make it up and then they canceled that course and gave me a correspondence course that would have involved writing something like 80 pages. I didn't do it because I hated school and did not want to go to college.
Graduating class of 2001. I have always just said I graduated, nobody checks up on it. I am not a career oriented person so not worried about it.

This is unironically true. I had two friends drop out by basically just stop going. I had another friend who barely went, got ISS all the time as "punishment", which was basically a full days worth of study hall, completed an entire week's worth of work in half a day and spent the rest fucking with the teacher.

The school wasn't the problem. It was stressful, but I could have handled it. If it wasn't for home being just as stressful. I had really bad parents. My step father was like a borderline sociopath, and on top of that he was an alcoholic. My mother was bipolar, and had the IQ of a child. They both would throw tantrums weekly. My life was constant anxiety and stress. I would frequently get headaches throughout the day, and I didn't even have the luxury of feeling relaxed in my own home.
I played video games a lot to escape it. I usually didn't do any of my homework. I even skipped school on many occasions. Just so that I can sit down and relax somewhere. Whenever I was at school the teachers would berate me in front of the class to no end, and I would get detentions every week or so. My health and hygiene took a nose dive. I just didn't care about anything anymore. I looked like a bum
I would wish that kind of life on no one. I wish I could have had those high school experiences that everyone talks about, but if I had stayed through the whole thing I may have killed myself.

I agreed, remained insistent on my desire to join the Navy, and scored high on the ASVAB. I never went to the reserve and was instead sent right to active duty.
Be committed, be ready to show them how ready you are to go at any time. Study all day for the ASVAB. Once your in DEP do not miss a meeting and learn your ranks and general orders.

High School is an introduction to academia so if there's nothing they saw worthwhile and they want to work in another unrelated field, so be it. By that time I'm sure they've gotten enough of the 'social skills' aspect that school is also supposed to provide.
I dropped out in 9th grade. I was in gifted programs and shit since elementary school and was among those acknowledged for having the highest FCAT scores (florida) multiple years while I was there, that was the only reason I made it as far as I did.
I had some bad experiences with the school system beginning in Elementary school with bullying and that had alot to do with my ultimate decision to drop out. I saw lots of hypocrisy and had some shitty teachers, they refused to punish the ones who would do violence against me on the bus/at my bus stop because others would group up and testify that I had instigated the confrontations (blacks and latinos primarily)
I became very introverted and stopped participating, eventually they just let me leave. My dad drew me out with them under the impression that I was to begin home schooling of some sort, which I never did.
I have always been an autodidact and prefer to learn by myself and through my own methods. My teen years following had alot of drug use and I did go through some lows.
Ultimately I found a good job though, I just didn't include my education or lack thereof in my interview and they didn't bring it up explicitly. I interviewed very well just by being myself and speaking confidently of my abilities and aspirations and that was all it took.
I do well, I have never nor has my family (single father with 4 kids living on painter's wages) ever accepted assistance. There are alot like me who dropped out and were by no means dumb but just could not cope with a bad public education system.
I don't play video games and don't own a TV, thats been my way for a very long time now. I read or play music in my spare time. I am on my own, renting for now. I consider myself to be doing very well, been with the company for a year now and have been promoted twice, both with pay raises.
I knew I was taking the hard road and I did it anyway. I have never regretted it.

Many drop out of school because they realize its an enormous waste of time and you're better off getting your GED and going to college immediately. Some feel that its a waste of time because they've already fucked up consistently enough during all their school years that they just don't see themselves prepared enough for what they're doing since they're missing major gaps in understanding or they're just fucking retarded. Others don't even think it through and drop out cuz lol fuk dat shit. Some even leave school because they'd rather do labor all their lives and work on getting an apprenticeship in a profession.
I think people have their reasons and will usually turn out okay if not corrupted by degeneracy. Those who have been corrupted usually fail hard. This goes for both dropouts and students.
