Unlike the rest of the party establishment, Trump is not in favor of free trade at all cost. He wants to put a tariff on imports from China. He wants to punish companies that hire illegal immigrants. His stance against free trade and in favor of protectionist measures has no economic sense behind it, and it would be catastrophic for the american and global economy. His foreign policy is incredibly poorly thought, as it completely neglects alliances that have taken decades to build and it fails to understand that isolationism would harm american interest. Not to mention Trump is completely tactless when dealing with foreign leaders, which translates into ruined diplomatic relationships.

Trump was a Democrat until 2009. He has a record of saying very liberal, typical celebrity new yorker things that are not what the Republican party believes in. It is much more likely that he changed parties because he felt GOP voters are more open to a populist message and he is using the system for his own personal gain...rather than having a real conservative change of heart.
