I'm english and I dropped out of languages at high school to get a free period so I could study things I actually liked, hated the idea of learning a language especially consider I have never had any desire to travel or work abroad.
But recently started learning French on DuoLingo which is free, bloody great app both on mobile and the web, can do these super short lessons a few times a day, tracks your progress. after about 2-3 weeks I'm 31% fluent.
Probably travel to France late in the year and hang out in a nice quiet place and drink some wine, eat some cheese and fucking relax, went to France as a kid and it's really nice in the rural areas.

Meh. English is the only true global lingua franca. Spanish is only really important in Central and South America. Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Indian can all be equally valuable depending on where you live and what you work with. Plus, there are a number of smaller languages which may be more valuable for very specific purposes.
At the end of the day, there's no reason whatsoever to think Spanish is somehow important enough that everyone should learn it. The only language that should be expected of everyone is English. The third language can be pretty much anything as long as it's useful.

I'm currently learning Spanish right now. After I become intermediate in Spanish or B1, I will start learning Japanese too. Japanese is the language I wanted to really learn forever and I know it will take me forever to learn ;_;
I need to learn how to learn a language first so that's why I'm starting with Spanish, the easiest language for English speakers. I heard the 2nd language is always the hardest to learn.
