>Yahoo Mail credentials numbered 40 million, or 15 percent of the 272 million unique IDs discovered. Meanwhile, 33 million, or 12 percent, were Microsoft Hotmail accounts and 9 percent, or nearly 24 million, were Gmail, according to Holden.

If you haven't dumped your old email address yet for an encrypted one, there's no time like the present. Just don't expect to be able to retrieve your password if you lose it, because these services won't have them.

>Yahoo Mail credentials numbered 40 million

Why am I not surprised?
>>
>not having 2 step authentication on your primary email

LOL

Also OP, I don't think you know what encrypted mail means. Just because the mail's encrypted doesn't mean anything about your account credentials you tard.
>>
>>73023897
If nobody knows the password but you, how on earth is anybody going to release your password?
>>
>>73024022
What, you seriously think Microsoft and Google just store the passwords in plain text?
>>
>>73024105
Can you retrieve your password from MS or Google if you forget it?

If so, then yes, they are aware of what your password is.

No you fucktard they reset it after you prove who you are.

Holy shit get informed if you're going to preach against something, that's like the motto of this board.
>>
>>73024287
Alright then. Where does MS or Google explicitly state that they don't know what's going on in your email, and don't have access to them? Where's the open source code to prove that the password is salted and hashed on your device?
>>
>>73023426
My Yahoo password is my gateway to my early 20's I have emails from dead relatives past girlfriends old friends. You're a scumbag OP
>>
>>73024498
So forward them to your new address.
>>
>>73024455
Where's the same information on the retarded services you posted?
>>
>>73024585
Protonmail and Tutanota are both open source, and both claim to salt and hash your password.

They also tell you that if you lose/forget your password, you are shit out of luck. You'll never get back in.
>>
Where is the list? I want to check if mine is compromised.
>>
>>73023426

Again? I'm fucking sick of changing my passwords every fucking time. How can these incompetent cunts keep fucking up.
>>
>>73024658
Just because they claim they're open source doesn't mean that's what they're running. If you're gonna be that paranoid how could you possibly trust them to be using what they say they're using?
>>
>>73024717
There are better options.

>>73024733
The open source audits help.
>>
Is there a list somewhere? I have an account I lost a password for before I could two-factor it.

where is it?

am I breaking the law just by asking that?

That doesn't have anything to do with what I said.

If you're gonna be so paranoid about someone knowing you jerk it to fag porn then setup your own mail server with code you wrote or went over yourself.

And now I'm having to do captchas again so fuck you.
>>
>>73024965
Where is what?

>>73024966
Obviously that's the best option. Just like Arch is the best OS, so long as you have an abundance of time. For everyone else, you need to compromise. Having an encrypted mailbox isn't a bad compromise.
>>
>>73025110
I find arch really easy, gentoo is the one that takes long
>>
>>73025110
What I'm trying to tell you is it doesn't mean ANYTHING.

There is no gray area. Either you setup your own box and can be 100% sure that it's safe from backdoors and other things (there might still be hacks, who knows) or you trust some words from a company. That's it.
>>
>>73024965
I'd search Baphomet, but cripplechan is living up to its name right now.

aren't most of these collected with keyloggers? so if your computer wasn't infected you're safe

lol, change it right now and nobody but you will have the current password.

Do any of those email services require a phone number? All of the major email providers, including Yahoo, Microsoft and Gmail, do.

Ghostmail just asks for a username, current email (to send a verification I think) and a password for you to make.

How many emails comprised by region? Then what regions were affected? North America only? These are pertinent questions, OP

>Can you retrieve your password from MS or Google if you forget it?

nope, you cannot and never could. you can reset your password with them but that's all.
>>
I would bet the ones they got from Gmail and similar were simply ones from Mail.ru users who used the same password for both mailboxes. Hack one, you've got em both.
>>
>>73027732
Tutanota definitely doesn't. Unsure about protonmail, but I don't think it does, either.

Really the best method, everyone should use it for their primary and any other important mail accounts.

Google, Microsoft or Yahoo probably won't lose your password, but people themselves might fuck up and leak their own pass. In this the email providers didn't lose the passwords.

>The passwords and email addresses, which include some from Gmail, Yahoo and Russia’s mail.ru service, aren’t necessarily the keys to millions of email accounts. Rather, they had been taken from various smaller, less secure websites where people use their email addresses along with a password to log in.

So your emails should:

Have a unique password, never used with any other website
Have two step verification
>>
>>73032657
2 step verification is a wonderful idea, but it does shed anonymity if you use a phone. Make sure to get something like a yubikey, or a picture file stored on a flash drive.
