The alt-right was an umbrella term created by Richard Spencer. He's been a central figure among white nationalists for a bit of time since he tends to get along reasonably well with every ideological variant of the right. At the core of the alt right is ethnic nationalism. That's central to everything. NRx is within the umbrella of the alt right but is a bit different with human biodiversity in place of ethnic nationalism, although some NRx people do incorporate ethnic nationalism.
Milo Yuonnopolis recently wrote an article on the alt right at Breitbart and claims he's part of it but he glorifies homosexuality, race mixing and identifies himself as a Jew. So now there's libertarians and civic nationalists that call themselves alt right now because of him. Some of them seriously believe the racism is all a joke.
