She wouldn't pick Sanders under any circumstance. The closest she would go would be Warren, but that is her second most unlikely pick from the choices on the table right now. Warren and Clinton hate each other with a passion, so unless they made a deal Warren as a VP pick behind closed doors (which could give possible answer to the reason Warren didn't endorse Bernie at a crucial time point during MA. If they had teamed up together then, Bernie would probably be in the lead. Though the main reason she didn't endorse him was most likely just not wanting to take chances of him losing and then her being isolated in the Senate.
Bernie is far too invested in his ideology to run with someone like Hillary, and she is far too stubborn to pick someone like Bernie.

I'm afraid of that, but the silver lining is that Hillary simply hasn't been pressed on the issues for years. And Trump is about style as well as substance. Liberals feel confident that "Benghazi" and other issues is unimportant, but she hasn't really had to defend herself on it like she will in the debates. She's benefitted from basically being invisible to the media except when she wants to be.

There are basically three strategies for a VP pick:
1) Play it safe and pick someone inoffensive who doesn't bring anything to the table, but just generally makes you look professional. An example of this would be a Clinton-Biden ticket. Clinton is in a good position to win outright through sheer demographics (sorry to be the one to break the news, /pol/), so while I think she would ultimately get away with it this is still probably the worst choice of the three.
2) Pick someone who motivates a different part of your party's base than you do in order to increase turnout. An example of this would be a Clinton-Warren turnout. Clinton is popular among moderately liberal voters and minority voters. Warren, like Sanders, is popular among very liberal voters and youth voters. A Clinton-Warren ticket will help soften the damage to Democratic turnout from disillusioned Berniebros.
3) Pick someone who steal your opponent's moderate voters out from under them An extreme example of this would be a Clinton-Kasich ticket, but I'm only using Kasich for name recognition. There are a lot of moderate conservatives who are very unhappy with Trump as a nominee and would be more than happy to jump ship to the Democratic party if Clinton begins making gestures that she's willing to move to the right. I think this would backfire hard, though - the fact is that the gap between the political parties has gotten very large, and reaching across probably loses you more supporters than it wins you. This could cost her the election, and she won't do it.
Clinton's smartest choice is to pick someone like Warren. She won't pick Sanders specifically, because that's unheard of and the race has just been too negative for people to buy it.
