My bet is that a new party would be formed taking dissatisfied from both parties and strong enough to chip away senate positions and a couple of governors and mayors right in the next election and, in a couple of decades, only the religious right would remain at the former GOP.

Nope, SCOTUS has ruled against that in Cousins v. Wigoda. Parties are private clubs and can do whatever they want.
Beyond that, the law only requires they not vote for anyone else. GOP rules already clearly state the only restriction on bound delegates is that they can't vote for another candidate.
There is no rule saying they have to show up in the first place, or cast any vote at all.
Priebus could ask them not to come for Vote 1. Or he could just lock the door before they got there. It's a private club. They can do whatever they want.
Are police from the other 49 states going to go to the convention and arrest people for violating election law? Will the FBI enforce state laws with no federal parallel? No. No they won't.

I am going to post the updated West Virginia delegate pasta, with my best guess for a 21-delegate slate which conforms to the cluster fuck rules.
The rules for At Large delegates permit a 22 name slate, but it appears to me that no matter how you parse it, there will be 8 delegates from the third congressional district. Which is one too many.
Since a majority of WV delegates are now unbound due to being pledged to candidates who have dropped out, it seems to me a tossup between voting for 21 known good names, or adding a 22nd who will be reassigned by the party.
And WV experts are welcome to review my results. All the links are in the pasta, coming up next.
So if the RNC does the unthinkable and unbinds all delegates after Trump wins Indiana, what's the point of even continuing with the rest of the primaries?

It would be career suicide for the delegates, but there is no way state laws would be enforced at the convention, and any lawsuits following it would be thrown out. The SCOTUS ruling specifically discusses whether private clubs can be bound by out of state legislation, and the answer was a resounding no.
You can cover your ears and deny the iceberg is there, or you can take in reality and plan accordingly. Only one course of action doesn't end with a sinking ship.
