In any, free, Capitalist economy, how do you prevent monopolies forming, wages collapsing and enterprise dying, without resorting to Socialism?
>>
Something being a monopoly doesn't mean that something is bad.
>>
you don't. you either idolize monopolies as cool and good, or you resort to sating the people (who increasingly can witness the contradictions of capitalism) with a strong fascist leader.
>>
>>72536882
A Business should never have full control over its worker's wages and rights without the workers being able to stand for themselves, right?
>>
Antitrust laws?
>>
>>72537049
That's slavery, not a monopoly. Of course slavery is wrong.
>>
>>72536815
Monopolies only form when the government backs them
YouTube is not a monopoly
There are a billion different streaming sources

An example of a monopoly is Comcast in America who bribe local politicians into setting up hoops that start up cable companies can not compete with or just outright banning services such as Google fiber
>>
>>72537143
that's what a monopoly is bucko
that's what capitalism is bucko

slavery
>>
>>72537143
Workers are slaves in a monopoly though. Their work decides whether they eat or starve.
>>
>>72537223
>people being able to willingly interact with others as they see fit is slavery

Right

the government holds a monopoly on violence, and uses it to enforce it's approved monopolies in other areas.

true monopolies can only form when the market is regulated into being that way. I.E. government putting up barriers to entry or granting exclusive rights.

In a free market there is always a monetary incentive to break the monopoly. And if a pseudo monopoly exists for a long time, it's most likely because they are providing a superior product and/or price. Which is a good thing.
>>
>>72537220
>Monopolies only form when the government backs them

Private property in general only exists thanks to the state, bucko.
>>
>>72537261
Sure, if you want to call that slave to nature, then fine. Go put nature in prison, and leave everyone else alone.

Right
>>
>>72537220
This. In a true free economy, anyone with a decent amount of startup money can just create competition. Crony capitalism is what forms monopolies, when backed by governments.
>>
>>72537484
And taxation is theft.
>>
>>72537413
Yes and?
What does that have to do with government creating monopolies?
>>
>>72537431
The business can cut their wages any time they like and the workers can't do shit. Sounds shitty.
>>
>>72537484
Crony capitalism is normal capitalism. It's designed to work that way.
>>
>>72537484
actually you could say that capitalism is crony
>>
Please illustrate how a private corporation/company could even possibly maintain a monopoly for an indefinite amount of time without a state enforced privilege.

I'd be really interested to know if you have any examples of that at all.
>>
>>72537593
OK

Your point?
>>
>>72536815
>BitTorrent
>not uTorrent
Stay pleb!
>>
>>72537626
Negative. Only when corporations bribe the government does capitalism become crony.
>>
>>72537829
BitTorrent is the name of the protocol, whilst uTorrent is a client.

You're the pleb.
>>
>>72537593
The worker can you know quit
No one's forcing them to work for the shitty government backed monopoly and you're memeing if you believe they can't find work elsewhere
Unless it's literally their only form of money in the community in which case private unions are legal and justifiable things

OP's image is retarded. Of course video streaming services make up a significant chunk of data transmission. That doesn't make netflix a fucking monopoly

By enacting laws that prohibit artificial barriers to entry for the market.

in any free capitalist economy monopolies literally can't exist

enterprises dying is a very important part of the economy. bad enterprises must cease to exist or the economy will never advance and evolve

step 1. don't allow it.

>>
>>72537342
The problem with this theory is that it presupposes a condition where the state is virtually nil. We don't live in such a world, and such a world has never existed. And as long as there is a state there's going to be powerful economic interests who may co-opt the state to help form monopolies and maintain them.

Are you implying that that's incorrect?

>monopolies only form with government regulations

Jesus. How politically cucked can you be? Even Smith acknowledged monopolies as something that would require government intervention if you read past the first few chapters.

>be me
>steel company
>finite amount of steel deposits in US
>get huge
>rival company falters over something
>merge or buy them out
>literally own all the steel in America

Gee
>>
>>72539360
Sure, it can happen, but that's extremely rare and usually doesn't last forever.

Government granted monopolies do last forever, and are vastly more numerous than some company that is handed the most golden opportunities ever in a market scenario.

I mean, how fucking likely do you really think it is, that a market comprised of 10000 different companies will eventually turn in 1 company, without a monopolizing privilege from the government?

Given enough time, 99%

And what about businesses that have extremely high barriers to entry by nature?

Our government is handling monopolization horribly but that doesn't mean that monopolies wouldn't exist in a free market.

Like what? Give examples.

>Our government is handling monopolization horribly but that doesn't mean that monopolies wouldn't exist in a free market.

I already agreed with that. The real question is, why is monopolies such a bad thing for you if it happens in a market with private corporations, but a good thing when government does it?
>>
>>72540096
>importing steel much more expensive
>just lower your price till it's cheaper but way more expensive than it would be in a competitive domestic market
Or
>become transnational company
And
>not solving the wage issue
PLS stop. Even Smith knows you're cucked.
>>
>>72536815
By not interfering.

Monopolies cannot completely encapsulate industries due to small players being able to sell to niche' markets.

Wages do not "collapse" they adjust to the market rate at which workers are willing to work and which employers are willing to pay. Artificially high wages are a result of limiting labor markets, and artificially low wages are a result of government subsidizing low wages.

Enterprises never die as in a completely free market entrants to the market are constant.
