It's actually a golden eagle, the largest eagle in the world. They even have falconers that use these eagles for hunting.

Except Imperial Japan doesn't look like shit. Yellow and red together are an awful color scheme. White and red, however, will probably be eternally pleasing to the eye. (Any color paired with a neutral, especially black and white, will due, however).
Not even a weebo, it's just a great flag. Off-center to appear interesting, but still balanced due to the thickness of the longer 'sunrays'; and while on the subject of sunrays, it's utilized in such a way as to appear 3-D, with a vanishing point and everything.
I've always been astounded that the best looking flag was Imperial Japan and that so few other flags incorporate it's features. As far as flag style goes, tho, the flat 2-dimensional and simples designs seem to be the bread and butter.
