On one hand, finding bacterias and anything up to animal tier wouldn't be anything that groundbreaking.
Actual contact would create multitude of problems, like for example what would the ayyliens mentality and biology be. Say they are slug-like or insect-like and don't really communicate like we do. Or they form a hivemind. Or they killed every other form of life on other planets.
Hell, say they are even pretty much alien smurfettes that read minds so language isn't a problem. They can be on a different tech level than us, though that would only end with the lesser dying.
Say they think like humans and are similar to humans in tech level. Simple biology proves that the slower-reproducing one will die.
So they have to be similar to humans, think similar to humans, have biology similar to humans and have development level equal to humans to have a peaceful coexistence that isn't preserve/zoos.
In that cosmically small chance it would most likely lead to segregations anyway. Cultural changes are so wildly varying I don't bother trying to envision it. The only actual thing that would be interesting is how every group would respond to nature of souls existing.
