It does seem typical for people like Chomsky. It's like Dick's short story The Mould of Yancy, which is about a fabricated popular leader who is precisely calculated to negate every statement he makes with an equal opposite. He sounds smart and insightful, but doesn't really say anything at all.
That's how I feel about people like Chomsky. Saying conflicts are economical in nature is both stating the obvious, and ignoring important details. It's one hell of a Yancy-statement. With this air of superiority and intellectualism, it invites people to stop examining the issue. And with some effort, the explanation can be turned to explain anything. Despite, of course, economic solutions failing time and again.
Terrorism caused by poverty and lack of education? We tried solving it that way. Didn't work. African tribal conflicts caused by scarcity? The West provides for the entire continent, and they still murder each other in droves and use the surplus to have kids.
It's all just Marxist bullshit. All in the service of this dumbass idea that if we just do away with money and money-based economy, people will no longer be screwed over by other, more powerful people.
