To be honest I feared for the worst when we all had to watch training videos for workplace shootings the other year, but the advice was surprisingly sensible.
I don't recall that it included dropping from the ceiling with scissors like a ninja, but it covered basic good ideas like how to set up an ambush if the shooter should break into your fortification.

Well you have some people hide after determining possible points of entry and using things like desks as shields to hide behind, not under. If you have enough people, you want to break this up into groups. And these people gather whatever items might be useful to throw at the shooter to distract him, block his vision, and ideally cause him to deflect the objects rather than be able to take aim and fire. Meanwhile the guys you had set up by the points of entry can come in and attack from the back.
I was fully expecting it to be just hide under your desk and cry.

If every citizen were required to carry a firearm (see Switzerland, one of the safest countries in the world incidentally), then the shooters odds of survival dramatically decrease. Also, most shooters equip themselves with more than one gun anyway. Try better bait next time.
