Well, for one, psychedelics tend to make people more empathetic and less prone to harmful acts, hippie-y as it may sound.
Why do you think it'd be a bad thing? LSD and psilocybin (the psychoactive tryptamines found in mushrooms) are concidered the least harmful drugs we know of, while alcohol tops the list of harmful drugs. You can't get addicted and you can't use them all the time (unless you're consuming ridiculous amounts, but then it's abuse, not use).
IMO most people could benefit from trying psychedelics. Not only because of the empathy part, but also because it lets you observe and analyze things from a different standpoint (state of conciousness). I firmly believe in the therapeutic qualities of these drugs.
