martin shkreli did nothing wrong
Health Insurance is a cartelized industry much like banking and every other shitty industry that has gone through regulatory capture (industry lobbyist control of the regulators)
Shkreli actually used the corrupt system to benefit people by overcharging insurance corporations (that exist to scam patients) and not actual patients

dirty capitalist shill spotted
>>72201466
There is no "passed on cost" in health insurance it's just a monopoly so everyone can be price gouged endlessly and prices never go down.
you should know how monopolies work Mexico your entire country is one run by Carlos Slim. Do you enjoy paying 3,000 pesos per phone call? Well that's how health insurance works in the US.
>>72201326
Fuck no dude, Shkreli is one of the Jewiest goyim of all time.

Shkreli is scamming insurance cartels not patients.

Just do what I did when I needed healthcare last year.
>go to doctor
>get diagnosed
>need expensive treatment
>signup for obamacare
>can't be turned down for preexisting condition
>pay deductible
>get treated
>drop insurance as soon as the doctor says treatments over
I intend on doing this anytime I need healthcare in the future. I'll pay for the limited time I need it, and drop it when I don't anymore.
Pro-tip: this system will disintegrate as soon as everyone figures out this is the cheapest way to do this: healthcare with out paying for it.

I never said that I like monopolies, it would be naive to think that insurance companies aren't passing down the increased cost (like any other business) on medical supply just because they can charge whatever they want.
You can parrot all you want about how he isn't ultimately leeching off consumers by painting him as a hero who is defying the evil insurance and pharma industries, though.
Shouldn't you be in bed by this time, Martin?

There is no "increased cost" the "cost" is just bid up prices that exist only because of the health insurance monopoly.
None of these costs are "real" it's all a financial figment.
They charge $1000 for a toothbrush or $500 for a Tylenol pill. It's all bullshit.

This is the best way to explain it

meaningless "fugazi" prices bid up just because they have a monopoly.

you forgot one thing
when the goverment regulates something/provides a good, it's usualy not for financial profit, but often at the cost of profit, because the good is of importance, and the free market cant distribute it well (no prevention from free riding, for example)
>>72205164
exactly
public goods exist so the middle class can more easily afford things (roads, utilities, defense, public infrastructure, etc)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im1QmtfHPb4
The problem with socialism is that they turn things that should be private goods (deodorant, shoes, etc) into public goods.

Shkreli did nothing wrong.
The drug he hiked prices on was only prescribed to about 2000 patients, the price increase only affected insurance companies. Shkreli stated that anyone who can't get the medication through insurance or medicaid can get it for literal pennies.
There's other rare disease drugs that make nearly a million every four years per patient, Martin just gets the most coverage and gives the least fucks. The guy literally went from the slums to making millions before even becoming a pharma bro.
>>72205813
If every drug supplier did this, and the cost was passed on to the insurance companies, what do you think will happen to your insurance costs?
>>72206158
Absolutely nothing because insurance comps. have big gov. backing them up every step of the way, lose a bit of $$, set new laws requiring mandatory insurance (affordable care act), hike up price for no good reason just cause and you are set to go
>>72206158
>If every drug supplier did this
Every drug supplier does this
It's the basis of the health insurance scam. They bid up prices of everything ridiculously high because they can.
Shkreli isn't affecting prices by even .000001 cent, he's entirely irrelevant to the system that has been set up since the 1940s.
>>72206334
Now the insurance companies have extra incentive to try and find something to invalidate your claim because it saves them even more money than before.
You're giving your money to a company whose sole purpose is to spend as little money on your health as possible. If all of the drugs they have to buy goes up in price by 700% what's going to happen to their profits? and if their profits are effected do you honestly think this in no way is going to have a negative effect on you?
>>72206567
It's less Shkreli that I'm bothered about and more the system as a whole. It doesn't seem setup to benefit people that are ill because of backwards incentives. The less you help people, the more money there is to make.
>>72206681
>If all of the drugs they have to buy goes up in price by 700%
again the prices are meaningless. Drug companies and the insurance companies collude together to raise prices because in the end that means greater profits for both of them
That's how you end up with $500 Aspirin pills in hospitals. The Aspirin doesn't actually cost that much to make, but if you bid up prices high enough you can make anything to costly to afford (without insurance)
I play league of legends with Shkreli sometimes
>>72201093
>people commit crimes
> therefore we shouldn't have laws
>>72201093
Shkreli is one of us. He legit didn't do anything to harm others. He even said if someone was going without because of their insurance he would give the medicine to em free no issues at all.
>>72207067
What good is a law that isn't enforced.

>>72201093
>government regulatory economy
Well, in America, the government regulates how much the people can do against the corporation instead, so I can see how that can come about.
America's economy is the opposite to a fairly regulated economy. Corporations couldn't get away with a lot of the shit they get away with in America, in other decent high HDI first world countries.
