The Cathedral here in Brasília
I don't remember what it was called but it looks pretty cool and I drive past it a lot.

Yeah, he's one of the few contemporary architects that brings his A-game to most of his projects. The Milwaukee Art Museum is a world class design and blows my mind that we got something of that caliber built.

On closer inspections OP's cathedral has some nice features. Such a shame about the surrounding building.

I thought that most cities in Italy had regulations preventing structures exceeding a certain height to keep them in line with the historical buildings in the city?

Even at 167m, it seems very out of place given the height of the surrounding buildings. It's a shame, since once they get away with building one (soon to be two), it'll mean that they'll try and put even more up.
Hopefully it doesn't ruin the character of the city.
>>72170532

Ain't that where the Teletubbies lived?
The Boers made a vow to God that they would build a monument if he granted them victory over the Zulus who were about to attack them.
470 Boers using single shot muskets fought 20,000 zulus at the battle of bloodriver and not a single Boer was killed.
Compare this to the battle of Isandlwana where 1800 British soldiers using state of the art breach loading rifles fought 20,000 Zulus and were defeated, suffering 1,300 casualties.
St. Peter of Alcantara Cathedral
>>72170803
Indeed another big one is almost completed and it's gonna reach 205 meters.
This one we were discussing is owned by a big bank so, you know how it is, I guess they played their cards to get it approved.
>>72172060
The battle of blood river was fought on 16 December 1838.
Also interresting about this monument is that it has a dome and there is a Cenotaph in the centre. Through an opening in this dome a ray of sunlight shines at twelve o'clock on 16 December annually, falling onto the centre of the Cenotaph, striking the words 'Ons vir Jou, Suid-Afrika' (Afrikaans for 'We for Thee, South Africa').

That one really makes me feel better about my city's cathedral that looks like a goofy mess.
The story goes that our archbishop nearly got excommunicated by the pope at the time for trying to build it because of allusions to the URSS, he went over to Rome and talked to him and all went well.
Now more than 50 years later we find all sorts of hidden shit under the city like secret tunnels all connected to it, shit's crazy.
