This. I feel no personal embarrassment in pretending to hold beliefs other than my own. I've done it when talking to Christian neocon types too. People want their beliefs to be validated, and I'm knowledgeable enough that I know the talking points of all the other sides, and I don't want to be a martyr to my (let's be honest) fringe and socially unacceptable political views.
