Seriously you can see the remnants of all that stuff in plenty of former eastern block countries. Countries that just happen to have lots of hot chicks that are dtf. No one should go to North Korea. But if you want to, you basically go through China. If you’re American it’s difficult to get approval to go directly from the US although there are ways to do it. Typically the North Koreans are going to vet you to make sure you’re not a spy and they’re going to watch you very closely.

There have been numerous independent reports / photo journalism, documentaries and books detailing the issues of north korean society / government / labour camps etc etc. I haven't come across anything that argues that it's a nice place in any way.
That doesn't mean our governments don't try and capitalise on it to promote themselves as good in reflection to north korea. But they hardly have to make stuff up to make north korea look bad.
