I travel to new York city multiple times in a month. Here's what you need to known
1) The airports are disasters, especially laguardia. Bring aspirin
2) literally dominated by foreigners. Whites are a minority in New York
3) it's very dirty. The city is infested with millions of people and they are mostly foreigners who don't know how to be clean or throw away their trash.
4) it's extremely expensive
5) everyone is rude
6) it's over crowded

What I remember the most from that place is the smell, I'm guessing locals are immune to it but idk if I could live in a city that smelled like shit 24/7. Other than that it was pretty cool.

Ok, so I work in NYC quite a bit and can tell you the following:
1.) Manhattan is ridiculously crowded. It is never not busy. Times Square for tourists is basically ground zero for all possible clusterfucks on that island. It's where all of the theaters are for shows, but toehr than that it's gimmicky tourist traps and chain restaurants.
2.) Any halfway decent meal at a restaurant will cost more than usual. Consider $65 USD for a steak at a good steakhouse par for the course, excluding and sides, drinks, apps, etc. Literally $65 for the one piece of meat.
3.) If you are talking about Manhattan in general, the different areas are unique and have different things to offer. If you are including the 5 boroughs, then this is exponentially more true. Brooklyn is hipster central. Take that as you want it if you feel like venturing there. Staten Island really doesn't have much for tourists. Same with Queens and the Bronx honestly.
4.) Taxis aren't terrible and Muhammad will know his way around quite well. If you take the Subway, you need to get a Metro Card, even if it is a single-use one. That's the only way through the gates. That time of year expect crazy humidity, even more so if you're underground.

Bronxfag here, this is true. The only thing of worth here is the Bronx zoo and the botanical garden. Zoo is free on to enter on wednesday. Also it's not as bad as you think.

You could also take the PATH into Hoboken in Jersey on a Saturday night. Tons of bars/clubs/etc all there if you wanted to get out of the city and still do something. Also, there are casinos not far away from the city, as well as beaches if you felt like driving. In June though, the weather could be a crapshoot and the water won't really be warm. Think around 18 degrees Celsius, Ausbro.
