http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/06/25/study-using-guns-for-defense-leads-to-fewer-injuries
>Citing four separate studies between 1988-2004, the assessment from the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council says crime victims who use guns in self-defense have consistently lower injury rates than victims who use other strategies to protect themselves (other strategies include stalling, calling the police or using weapons such as knives or baseball bats).
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-12-27/how-often-do-we-use-guns-in-self-defense
>Hemenway finds more reliable an annual federal government research project, called the National Crime Victimization Survey, which yields estimates in the neighborhood of 100,000 defensive gun uses per year. Making various reasonable-sounding adjustments, other social scientists have suggested that perhaps a figure somewhere between 250,000 and 370,000 might be more accurate.

>Upon interviewing convicted felons, these researchers found that
>74% indicated that burglars avoided occupied dwellings, due to fears of being shot
>57% said that most criminals feared armed citizens more than the police
>40% of the felons had been deterred from committing a particular crime, because they believed that the potential victim was armed
You sure can, OP. But first, you'd better go get an AR so you can be prepared to replace losses on your side of the ensuing civil war.

86 percent feel the currently proposed legislation would have no effect or a negative effect on improving officer safety
Similarly, 92 percent feel that banning semi-automatic firearms, or “assault weapons,” would have no effect or a negative effect on reducing violent crime
Demonstrating the opinion that the best way to combat gun crime is through harsher punishment, 91 percent said the use of a firearm while perpetrating a crime should lead to a stiff, mandatory sentence with no plea bargains. Likewise, 59 percent believe increasing punishment severity for unlicensed dealers would reduce crime
Respondents were more split on background checks, with 31 percent agreeing that mental health background checks in all gun sales would help reduce mass shootings, while 45 percent disagreed
71 percent support law enforcement leaders who have publicly refused to enforce more restrictive gun laws within their jurisdictions
82 percent believe gun buyback or turn-in programs are ineffective in reducing the level of gun violence
91 percent support the concealed carry of firearms by civilians who have not been convicted of a felony and/or have not been deemed psychologically incapable
Likewise, 80 percent feel that legally-armed citizens would likely have reduced the number of casualties in recent mass shooting incidents
38 percent believe the biggest cause of gun violence in the United States is the “decline in parenting and family values”. This was trailed by “overly lax parole and short sentencing standards” at 15 percent and “pop culture influence” (eg. violent movies and video games) at 14 percent

Aside from the ÅR-16 shit. I get it, typos, whatever, let's actually examine the arguments for pro gun, and why I personally think they're superior.
there are a few, and if you want, I'll voice some of the others later, but for now, let's just take both sides to their logical conclusion:
Anti-gun, when taken to its ultimate logical conclusion, is a country where every gun is in the hands of the police, the government, and the secret service.
All three of these entities are government owned. In this word, you have disarmed the populous, any hope of rebellion against a tyrannical government would be quashed insofar as it would be illegal to obtain any form of firearm.
>but you say that criminals will still get guns! You gun nuts sure do contradict yourselves!
What criminal organizations have you known that are capable of making a stand against the government? Not a stand as in avoiding capture (like the drug cartels and gangsters) but a stand in the sense of an actual rebellion set on capturing the Capitol city. It could not happen. Absolutely no chance. An armed militia would be needed, and to organize a series of militias against a government who controls all fire arms, all the media and all the roads is virtually impossible.
Now let's take pro-gun arguments to their logical conclusion:
Every citizen is armed equal to the arms possessed by the continental United States. Notice that I said "continental United States." That means no tanks, drones, no missile launchers, no jets and no navy.
This world has people in a position in which they could feasibly overthrow a tyrannical government.
Every step we take toward gun control, we step further away from our ability to regulate our own government.
>>71754639
I never thought this level of cuckery possible. The self-defeatism is so sad. I'm out negros. I need a break from this ride.

The movement to ban assault weapons is so stupid and misguided. Vast majority of gun crime is committed with pistols. Banning assault weapons is just a knee jerk reaction to a couple of fringe cases of school shootings.
'Assault weapons' enable the people to practice the 2nd amendment in the way the founding fathers intended, by putting power in the hands of the people to fight against tyranny
>"And army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights"
-Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers
If you really wanted to reduce gun violence, you would push for a ban of pistols, but even then, that would stop people from defending their homes and could cause gun violence to increase.
Therefore, banning any weapons currently legal in the US is misguided and will cause problems in the future.
>>71755427
>1. Drugs already banned

>>71755926
Because they're bootlicking statists. They believe the common man shouldn't be individuals, rather a collective controlled by a few powerful people.
People can try to ban guns in the USA but I don't think it is really possible. So many people are just going to hide them. Would be easy to smuggle across the Mexican boarder.
Just too many guns already there. The government would have to take them by force and that would start a civil war.

There's no reason to tax and inconvieniance everyone just because of a few stupid assholes who are better off dead.
The number of people unintentionally kulled by cars is 50+ times greater than those killed in gun accidents. Also, you DON'T need a license to own a car, just to drive them on government built roads. Comparable to US CCLs.
>>71757009
Requiring a license to own a gun IS infringing on the right
>>71756869
Yeah that's one of the weakest fucking arguments the anti-gun fags use.
I've lived for 32 years, I have known 1 fucking person EVER who was killed by an accidental gunshot.
And I hesitate to even use the word "know," he was an isolated incident of my highschool which had 2,000 students who sat a few seats in front of me in English class.
>>71757222
That's a fair point to be honest. I never looked into the number of accidental gun deaths, I just thought it would be a good idea.
Since the rate of accidents is so low, it seems kind of unnecessary to have a license.
I'm buying a gun tomorrow because of this thread. Thanks OP

The real reason the Left is so desperate to take guns away
They know that an armed populace heavy in military vets is the one check to absolute power
They have already institued plan B though
Dissipate military strength in unpopular overseas wars
Get white males out of combat arms by replacing infantry with drones and soldiers with trans activists in technical jobs
Eliminating the trained infantry who are the best source of militia is almost as effective as a complete gun ban
The civil war has already started, and only one side is fighting

>>71751578
Agreed. The Second Amendment has no place in modern society. When America got organized as a country, they wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to the radical American masses. There’s too much personal freedom. When personal freedom’s being abused, the State, the only entity deserving of power, has to move to limit it. The National Guard fulfills the militia mentioned in the Second amendment. Citizens no longer need to protect the states or themselves.
>>71757009
It's got nothing to do with dissidents. Having a free license and test is to encourage responsible thought ownership, which will reduce the "accident" rate, but doesn't infringe on the individuals rights.
