It really wasn't what you think it was, your brain portrays events in the past as wonderful but that's only because you've forgotten all the bad things.

Today we have extremely fast technology, massive advancements in health and science and shit kids in the 90s would've died to get their hands on.

2016 is essentially better as you have so much more now than there was in 1996. Sure, the Twin Towers were still standing but now the World Trade Center is just a few years off from being complete once again.
>>
I am fond of the 90s because it was the last bit of life before the internet and social media ruining our personalities and priorities. I remember making an entire day out of riding my bike around outside and never worrying about stupid shit like checking my phone for texts. People at concerts were focused on talking to each other and watching the band, not fucking filming it. Things like that were why it was better. The world so complicated and judgmental today that all it takes is one picture of you smoking pot on the internet for the entire country to ostracize you (Michael Phelps)

Look at how fucked up people born after 2000 are. Utterly obsessed with selfies, social media, twitter, anything to virtue signal and gain status amongst their peers. It isn't healthy or normal behavior and needs to end. People need to learn to be content with just existing in the world again.
>>

Thank you for proving OP's point.
>>
>>79629987
he's right you know
>>
>>79629681
>shit kids would have died...etc

Except fresh air, exercise, socializing outside of the Internet and getting laid before 30.
>>
90's was the pinnacle of modern music, disagreeing with this is not an option.
>>
>>79629987
>>79629987

>Look at how fucked up people born after 2000 are.

Tarring an entire generation with the same brush is absolutely retarded, there are many kids out there with common sense. Good parenting will lead to having good children, don't hand your kid an iPhone when they're 5 years old. Wait until they are a responsible teenager who can make their own decisions.
>>
>>79629681
>fast technology
Yeah and it's filled with normies and crazy feminists and SJW who want to censor everything on the internet

>massive advancements in health and science
Like what? I don't count iPads and iPhones as massive scientific advancements
>>
>>79630175

You do realise that music has been infested with forced diversity, liberal morals and what not for god knows how long now?

Classical and local is the real white man's music.
>>
90s gave us Die Hard 3 so..
>>
Excluding personal stuff, I actually think this decade is shaping up to be the best one in terms of political events, happenings and technological advancements.

2016 has been GOAT for news and politics.
>>
>>79630320

It's technology that can be put to good use, don't let a bunch of retarded SJWs on Tumblr stop you from using that stuff efficiently.

iPads and iPhones aren't related to health or science you mong. Shit like cancer treatment, space mapping and what not has come a long way since the turn of the millennium.
>>
my step child literally never takes his eyes off his tablet computer and when it freezes we try to ignore him throwing a tantrum and wheezing like a fucking animal so he'll do more normal things but my sister eventually gives in and fixes it for him every time
>>
No. I would cream myself if OP wasn't continually a faggot.
>>
>>79629681
People were better back then because they had to work it out more in general. They were more interesting to talk to, they were more independent from government cucking and overall better people.

Nowadays people don't give any more effort to anything; they just google it on their wireless tracking device and they have their answers. Which are mostly government promoted as that's what Google puts up in their faces when they search for it.

Technology wise it has improved, but the entertainment content that is produced currently isn't nowhere as good and that's something everyone can easily notice. You know movies and shows are full of SJW crap, and at least some of the animations of the 90s did have good values such as friendship, love (actual love and not queer or gay shit) and their casts were mostly or completely White (except for a few shows that came off USA).

2016 is an oversaturated hivemind in all aspects. Nobody has the balls anymore to have an own opinion because it could cause them to be outcasted in all places. They just mooch off the trendy opinion in the hivemind. Even we here in /pol/ do it all the time.
>>
>>79630569

Talk some fucking sense into your sister, throw the kid outside and give him a ball. Lock him out and don't let him in until he starts playing with it, if he's spending all his time inside he probably has a Vitamin D deficiency and needs some sunshine.

90s was a good time because it fell in between the cold war and 9/11, and there was a littel bit of optimism about how the world would turn out
>>
Whatever floats your boat.

The 90s were still awesome.
>>
>>79630836
Yes, but it wasn't a full force pumping as it is currently. You had some exceptions (or at least I do remember shows that had plots and relationships we would consider outrageous nowadays in tumblr terms).
>>

Well I was born in 1990 but I didn't generally enjoy my childhood because the 90's in Bongland were shit. In the 2000's it got better and it's only very recently (2014) that it's gotten shit again.

9/11 showed how the Americans are absolute pussies.

They're still frozen in horror because 3,000 people died in one day. 6,000 people die every hour. It's been fucking 15 years, it's time to move on.

When I was a kid in the 90's:
>We had internet, but it didn't have much on it of interest. Your house couldn't get phone calls while you were on it. It was slow, and mostly text as pictures to forever to open. 800x600 was max res. And the only computer was in the living room, with mom.
>We started to get cell phones in the 90's... but calls were super expensive. A typical call was "Baseball practice is over, you can pick me up now. Bye." No one lived on their phone outside of Wall Street douches. Maybe a dozen or so kids in my entire school had one in 1999 (my 8th grade year). Now they pretty much all have them.
You are right, having the perspective of life before these things makes feel so lucky.
>>

>No gay shit every where you looked
Pride and diversity was being pushed in the 90's
>No terrorist attacks on US soil
The fact that Americans are still sad over 9/11 astonishes me, it's been 15 years for christ's sake.
>No one taking pictures of themselves making goofy faces like fucking idiots then posting it to social media for nothing more than attention

I grew up in the 80s and 90s as a working class kid and it was paradise.

My father was a construction workers who raised 3 kids on a single salary and was able to buy a house from his income.

Try that today. You wont even be able to raise a single kid off two incomes and you definitely wont be able to afford a house. Only way to raise a family today is to be an unemployable shitskin on welfare.

80s and 90s were better in every respect. Internet quickly turned out to be bullshit too, if the internet went down forever tomorrow, nothing of value would be lost.

Why do people overall cream themselves over the past?.

Nostalgia, we mostly have those thoughts rooted in the part of the brain were it makes us feel good, similar to porn. We ignore the negative aspects for the positives.

Because what is the memory being poor compared to having a memory of you having a touching moment with your parents as a child

>being so weak minded you can't listen to music without becoming a faggot
>>
Maybe its just nostalgia but i cant imagine a song like this in 2016(they probably exist but i dont see them) most music today just seems like wiggers or blacks signing about money or women dressed like whores.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BMwcO6_hyA
>>
And the creativity in the 90s (same with 80s too) wasn't the only thing why I prefered them to current years; manners and clothing were better too, just look around the West how everyone wears fucking leggins, tattoos, piercings and all that crap that makes them look like literally buffoons. They're ridiculous.

I consider 80s-90s clothing styles of all ages to be juvenile and rebellious but at the same time it kept a normality of sorts, specially women's clothing. Their current fashion is literally them asking for a sand/nigger to rape them.
>>
People where way more cynical and hateful which is a good thing. Being called a faggot on a daily basis was the norm. Now if you do that everyone will scream and call you a bigot. Fuck that.

I don't pay much attention to music right now but maybe you should step back and see the bigger picture metaphorically speaking. The Top 40's doesn't automatically sum up today's music. There's still room for creativity.
>>
>>79>>79631460
I'm guessing you're a millennial. Music was without a doubt better. Stars were stars. You say only a small group of retards are taking silly photos no EVERYONE is taking silly unnecessary photos. Lastly, my thoughts about terrorist attacks aren't due to me being sad. Life is different , security measures are extreme and we just had Omar Mateen kill 49 people just to impress a Muslim organization. Why did he choose gays ? Because like I said , the gay agenda is everywhere. A gay may have been jumped in the 90's or beat up but no one would even think of doing what he did because the media wasn't shoving trannies and men kissing men down your throat.

2016 is literally grabbing the worst things of the 90s (crippling progressivism, homosexuality, transsexuality etc) and augmenting them by 900x while destroying everything that made the 90s worthwhile. It's really a terrible year in all aspects.

>b-but muh techz

Look you fucking idiot, I was staying my opinion which you, the OP asked for via your post. No one here is letting anyone or anything bring them down I can assure you of that. I accept what comes. It's apparent you know your era is shit so your becoming offensive. You must find some validity in what I'm saying. Let me also address this trend in /pol/ of younger posters thinking older posters " need to evaluate their life" if they are still on 4chan as if being a thirty or forty something should automatically exclude someone from a political forum. Let me be clear , the only reason this site, particularly this forum is what it is is because of the older guys with experience and perspective sharing their opinions. I'm not a neckbeard , I have a career and a productive life. Cheers.

2007 was the turning point where people could no longer act foolish, within reason, one day and be professional the next with little to no consequences. Facebook, Tumblr, iPhones. What I hate most about 90's nostalgia on here is that underaged idiots equate it to the 50's here in America when in fact the degeneracy was starting to go into full gear (and had been since the 60's, where before it was mostly underground after the market crash.)

Personally, the 90's never quite made the comeback or have as much of an obvious theme like the three previous decades. Granted, they were better than the next two in terms of cultural impact, (The tens have more or less defined themselves as 'uplifting', minimalistic, 'sincere', and 'post-ironic'; A codification of all the hipster tropes that existed in the late 2000's mass-marketed in the most ironic fashion. The 00's were a repeat of the 80's filtered through extreme materialism and the birth of the internet.) but the 90's never quite percolated back into style as much.

Don't forget that a lot of employees, particularly those that are salary, are never completely off the clock because they have to answer their cell if they get a call, text or email.

Compare the Gulf war with what we have now.
They have more power than ever. They can make outrageous demands and nobody is even mad anymore.
I didn't say there was no immigrationn but that there was no mass immigration. Today you have plenty of ghettos in every major city. mid-late 90's were the beginning of the end.

This.

I feel like we knew we were going to shit in the 80s but we knew we were strong enough to deal with it.

I remember 90s fashion coming back as "normcore" around a year ago but it kind of fizzled out. Kind of a letdown, really. The undercuts I see on guys today feel pretty 90s to me. Also it seems like men's shorts are finally climbing back up from the fugly board-shorts thing.

Fashion is such a weird, artificial thing to me anyhow. Case in point is a recent experience with an arrogant door-to-door salesman with an undercut. As he smirked at my (admittedly gaudy) jogging shorts I couldn't help but think that 5 years ago he must have smirked the same way at men with undercuts. In any case he mistook my kindness for weakness and tried to railroad me into buying an alarm system that I really had no interest in. Ended up slamming the door in his face. Felt good.

A few years ago people creamed themselves over the 80s and soon people will cream themselves over the 00s

Please stop saying things like that.

That's because things are bad but we aren't getting any better.

what will they cream themselves over? minecraft? the rapefugees? merkel? are any of those things worthwhile? even the fucking disney movies are dysmal.

The only thing great about the 90s was that stretch when the USSR and thus the Cold War died and the economy picked up before the S&L crisis. Also, Street Fighter II. Everything else is overrated crap and your Nostalgia for childhood.

The internet drew us further aprt not closer together.
Hell on New Years eve I sat in my room playing video games. Even my cousins and brother did the same thing. We weren't even playing together.

But the biggest thing is the economy. My parents without big fancy degrees could go from one job on a Monday and have a better job by Friday. Compared to now where I've been unemployed for 6+ months and can barely scrape a few hundred dollars together.
Just listen to the music made a few years after the greatness of the 90's

Even the holdovers from that decade were optimistic. Its all been doom and gloom since mid 2000.
Donald Trump wears a 80's power suit and he reminds people of the optimism of that era. Things were looking up and we want that again.

It was the last time people experienced any notion of freedom before we turned full 1984 in 2001. Sorry you're too young to remember it, you really missed out.

The 90s were terrorism and Islam free in the West.
The URSS was over and with it the threat of a nuclear armaggedon.
There were problems but they were mild compared to today.
Internet was all fun and potential, not full of narcissist and feminists.
At the end of the day, the world was more peaceful than today.

>They just mooch off the trendy opinion in the hivemind.

It's always been like that...

The difference between today and before is that the "system" we live in has grown too big and complex for anyone to do anything about it. Only a major reset like a major natural disaster or another world war could solve it.

remember when women didnt dress like sluts on a daily basis? when the average female attire was jeans and a T shirt? or Overalls? Now it's all skinnyjeans and spandex leggings.

When the fuck did we accept spandex leggings as normal attire.

personally, I blame girlbands like Spice Girls, on top of Brittany Spears. Both of which pushed that sort of naughty girl ideal.

Because there were no normalfags on the Internet.

The quality of the Internet declined rapidly when social media and smartphones became a thing.
