As a rule of thumb I'd say Realschule is for anything pracitcal, archtypical is a carpenter. But I've been out of education processes for almost 20 years now, so I don't know the details exactly and Abitur from Gymnasium is needed for a lot more jobs now, like for police officers.
Hauptschule, good question actually, you can almost instantly apply for welfare if you only go with that degree. But they've also lowered the standards, so it shouldn't be too hard to get Realschulabschluss, if you aren't an imbecile.
