>We are happy to meet with Donald Trump. The NRA's position on this issue has not changed. The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing. If an investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale, and arrest the terrorist. At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed. That has been the position of Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tex.) and a majority of the U.S. Senate. Sadly, President Obama and his allies would prefer to play politics with this issue.
The key sentence here is this:
>At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed.
The NRA wants the system reformed. They want terrorists to actually be investigated when they are put on the list, not just thrown on the list and ignored so long as they don't try to board a plane. They want the investigation to have due process, where if evidence is found of terrorism, you go to court and have a trial. If you are wrongfully put on the list, you can also go to court and have your DUE PROCESS as an AMERICAN CITIZEN to be removed from the list. Either way, your right isn't taken away from you without a trial.
Trump will not push for any legislature on gun control without having the NRA's approval. His meeting is to understand what their position is and understand what would be the right course of action to take on this issue. This is how Trump operates. He doesn't pretend to know everything about anything. He gets educated from advisors who know the issues, and then he makes a decision.
>>77417388
That is what this is about, that is why he is meeting with them. Again, he will not push for legislation that doesn't have the approval and foresight of the NRA.
I ask you all to keep this thread bumped, and remake it when it gets closed. Keep the link to the NRA's webpage containing the relevant quote. By keeping the truth up, the shills will be ineffective at their goal of sowing dissent. The only way to counter them is to present the truth. Do not post in shill threads. If you must, put sage in the options so the thread is not bumped.
Seems reasonable. I think this eases a lot of tensions people had in terms of due process et al. At least it does for me. We should trust in the emperor
hopefully with Trump as president the whole process of managing such a watch list will be greatly improved so that this becomes a non-issue
>>77417388
so where were you when Trump cucked obama?
Trump works together with the NRA to achieve reform where obama just cries and rambles on senselessly
>>77417388
Bump
>>77417388
I figured as much, concern shills trying to meme us once again. Have a bump.
>>77417388
Thanks for the bump guys, copy and paste the OP into any shill thread pushing disinfo you can find. Sage the shill thread while you're at it.
I don't mind restricting gun access to people on No-fly and terrorist watch lists. Hell it would help a lot

Sadly people dont give him credit for this.

no it wouldn't you shill
persecuting terrorists would help, keeping lists that people don't have the manpower to investigate that block sales of arms only make the government look like chump assholes
Does a "gun lobby" legitimately exist in the US?
Does the NRA pay off politicians, or is it just a boogeyman from anti-gun folks?
This would just set the precedent that you could be put into some database for literal thought crimes and would have to go to the government to appeal for and prove your innocence.

I'm liking this Rocky Mountain gun owners organization, the NRA looking soft on this issue

considering flag burning is the new edgy fashion trend, I can understand why some liberals would be against any form of government intervention.
>>77419724
There's a lobby for almost everything.
Yes the NRA is real and funded by citizen members who give them money to fight for the 2nd amendment.
>>77419932
And I'm talking about the NRA's position that there would be ways for citizens to be removed for being wrongfully put on it. There should be no secret lists where the government or their algorithms pick who gets their rights and who has to prove their innocence to thought crimes.
We SHOULD be concerned with ANYTHING that lays a hand on our rights, or our guns, but yes, it certainly sounds sensible, as long as the Dems don't get their claws in it to turn it against us.
>>77417388
No, taking away people's rights without due process and then offering a way for people to have their rights restored after isn't justice and won't make anyone safer.
The damage will have already been done and the legal precedent is extremely dangerous for all of our liberties.
So no. Trump, the NRA and the rest of you boot-licking proto-fascists can kiss my redneck ass.

>OH BTW I ONLY WANT TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY WITH NO DUE PROCESS AND NO OVERSIGHT ABOUT HOW YOU GET ON OR OFF THESE LISTS WHICH YOU CAN BE ADDED TO FOR ANY REASON THAT SUITS THEM AT THE TIME
I really believed in you Trump. In the end, you're the same as the rest of them. Sad!

It's funny how the shills are pushing this as Trump flip flopping when in reality nothing has even been said or agreed upon.
In fact, that statement by the NRA seems relatively reasonable.
all these pathetic shills are getting so lazy they don't even try to blend in anymore
>Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing.
>brb we're all put onnawatchlist

I think the NRA and Trump are still our best hope, but they're a pretty shitty best hope. If we end up with some bullshit like this, I'm rescinding my membership, and I've told them as much.
>>77420873
Reasonable/sensible are subjective terms. What's reasonable today is unreasonable tomorrow. If we base our system of rights on something so arbitrary we will come to regret it. It is like building on a foundation of sand.
Rights have to be absolute, and only can be taken through due process. Due process guarantees that you are innocent until proven guilty by the state. Doesn't matter if you just shot 12 people in a theater red handed and it's "sensible" to just execute you then and there, we still give people a trial to protect due process. If we set a precedent that removes protected innocence that must be proven false beyond a reasonable doubt, there is no end to the kind of "reasonable" machinations they can produce to strip people of their rights by preemptively classifying them as guilty in some sense.
Putting people on a secret list for procuring certain information is classifying them for thought crime. You are stripping people of their right to innocence until proven beyond a reasonable doubt. You are a fucking retard if you want to cross that precedence and give the government something to point to to justify further violations of due process.

>>77420722
this
>>77420624
I don't recall
The NRA has already caved in too much.
There should be no gun laws at all. Period.
Murder is already illegal
Manslaughter is already illegal.
Gun ownership is a right not a privilege and it has already been infringed too much. The NRA is complicit in this.

>>77422944
Seeing as how no fly no buy WON'T work (literally what are accelerants) (literally what is ammonium nitrate) (literally what is a Sten gun) (the underwear bomber could get explosives), doing literally nothing would be a better solution.
Failing that, the usual: target hardening (CC, trauma kits, training), BUILD WALL, robust civic nationalism to encourage assimilation, and if anyone fucks with us we make the rubble bounce (no nation-building--or if we do, colonize, don't "advise." George MacDonald Fraser has a good bit about this in Flashman on the March that's well worth a read.).

More from Bill Weld:
>I’m a lifelong hunter and gun owner, and I don’t think those proposals were out of the mainstream at all. I distinguish between hunting guns and guns that really don’t seem to have any hunting purpose or potential purpose. So that was the distinction I was drawing there. I think Gary and I can find common ground.

I'm getting so sick of the shilling this year. I was expecting summer to be bas with the elections but this a whole new level of shill.
The whole "alt right" thing is just the media trying to make us a part of its agenda. Apparently a few jews out there actually think Trump is happening other way. Nice to know they still bicker among themselves.
>>77424299
oy vey goyim how dare you ask for your government to be transparent about its secret watchlists made by secret government employees you're threatening national security!
But seriously, the idea that the government can put you on a list and take away your 2nd amendment right is screwy as hell and should be fought.
>>77417388
It's fine to lose your 2nd amendment right without due process as long as you can use due process to get it back! Maybe!
yeah fuck off
>>77423694
Fuck Weld.
Trump is a deal-maker. He might have to make compromises, but he will actually get things done. People keep forgetting that we have to actually listen to all sides and try to come to an agreement. I really hope he can accomplish this kind of thoughtful deal making throughout his Presidency, I hate this gridlock.
>>77424694
