>Armed protesters marched through downtown Arlington Friday evening, interrupting a Levitt Pavilion concert and clashing with police.
>Dissatisfied with a recent grand jury decision to not indict a former Arlington officer who shot 19-year-old Christian Taylor, protesters from Arlington and UTA’s NAACP chapters marched through downtown shouting “justice now.”
>“We’re protesting for Christian Taylor,” Damon Crenshaw said. “We just want the world to know Brad Miller killed Christian Taylor.”
>Miller fatally shot Taylor at a South Arlington car dealership last August. Police were notified of Taylor’s presence after security cameras for the dealership caught him jumping on and breaking into a vehicle.
>Miller, who was dismissed from the Arlington Police Department days after the shooting, confronted Taylor inside the dealership’s body shop. Taylor ignored his orders to get on the ground and instead charged him. Miller responded by firing his weapon.
>An autopsy later found synthetic psychedelic drugs in Taylor’s system.
>On Wednesday, a Tarrant County Grand Jury declined to indict Miller for his actions; determining not enough evidence existed for an indictment.
>"They need to get rid of those grand juries,” Crenshaw said. “(District Attorney) Sharen Wilson should have charged Brad Miller. They could have charged him.”
>Crenshaw said he was with a group called Next Generation Action Network. The group’s website shows it organized a press conference Friday morning at the downtown police station.
>Escorted by motorcycle officers, the protesters marched to Levitt Pavilion, where they shouted down a concert playing to hundreds of attendees.
>One of the protesters, armed with a semi-automatic rifle, approached the stage demanding the microphone from the band.
>“We want to make sure their voice is heard, because this is the United States of America,” the band’s singer said. “Thank you guys for being here and standing up. We really respect you.”
>Failing to gain control of a microphone, the protesters eventually dispersed back to Abram Street where they clashed with police. One of the armed protesters was disarmed and arrested. The reason is not clear.
