Anti-gun people are really weird to me. Why would you deny yourself a defensive tool that puts yourself on equal footing with your aggressor? Equal footing at worst, a massive advantage at best. A gun allows a literal child to defend himself against a home invader - all it takes is a steady hand and a smooth trigger pull. Even if you disagree with the proliferation of firearms, you have to acknowledge their effectiveness. Why would you deprive yourself of mankind's greatest invention for self-defense?
Make no mistake though, a gun requires a measure of personal responsibility, and perhaps this is the answer. Does the mind of the anti-gunner seek to absolve himself of this responsibility? Instead of using a gun to defend themselves, they would prefer to dial 911, hide, or become a victim themselves - leaving the responsibility of their safety to others (with guns). It no longer has to be their decision. The same could be said for people pushing censorship and "safe spaces" on college campuses. Their concept of physical and mental safety is someone else's responsibility - never their own.
Anti-gun people would prefer to hamstring the strong, bringing them down to their level, rather than uplift themselves and take responsibility for themselves. Police are there to clean up the mess, punish criminals after the fact, and have no duty to protect you. You are only one who is responsible for your own defense. Victimhood is not a position of power or moral superiority.
Anti-gunners fancy themselves part of some intellectual elite - so shouldn't they be the ideal gun owners? You're smart enough to figure out the laws surrounding self-defense, when lethal force is allowed, and that it should used with discretion. You should know to lock up your gun to prevent kids from using it or to prevent its theft. Surely you can handle the responsibility if you try, so look inside and ask yourself:

Politicians, in democracies, claim to care about all of their constituents, and their constituents repeat this sentiment of populism among themselves, but nowhere in me is this all-encompassing empathy that so many people seem to have(or pretend to have, as I pretend to have as well). If a person can't contribute to the grand human project, I would rather see them dead than see them fulfilled. I don't really believe there's some basic aspect of humanity that's missing from me. Humans have always been inhumanly callous, while pretending to be inhumanly kind.
