I had a panic attack on Wednesday just thinking about the possibility of Donald Trump becoming Commander in Chief of America. The idea that an authoritarian demagogue could control the country I've lived in since I was born is chilling. The implications for the entire globe are unthinkable.
Since 9/11, the executive branch has slowly been gaining more power in efforts to 'fight terrorism'. For example, the NDAA for 2012 which allows the president to detain a 'terrorist' indefinitely without any due process whatsoever. Now think of Donald Fucking Trump with this kind of power. He joked abut killing reporters. What's to stop him from locking up a reporter that writes a hit piece on him, claiming they stole vital secrets and publicized them, making them a terrorist? Somewhere along this line, factual reporting will turn into treason. It is all too easy now for him to spy on anyone using the NSA's vast power.
Even more terrifying is the thought of this man having the authority to launch a nuclear strike. We have no idea what his plan for foreign policy even is. If things got worse in Iraq I have no doubt he would nuke the country. And an insane number of Americans would agree with him on this. Not to mention the war crimes he is condoning against ISIS.
I've seen a lot of people on this board say that there is no way Trump can win. But Trump hasn't lost steam yet. After all the vulgar, terrible things he has said he still has solid support. He will viciously attack Hillary Clinton over her voting record, her campaign contributions, her husband, Libya, the email server. If she gets indicted, he could win the election. If a major terror attack happens in the US or Europe, he could win the election. If the economy tanks again, he could win. I understand this is all hypothetical, but they are very much within the realm of possibility. The fact that it even could happen is completely, utterly terrifying.
