PhD anthropologist here. Neanderthals were not a "race"; there are no races. Humans are a polytypic, polycentric species with enormous geographic ranges with 100% genetic compatibility due to successive periods of gene flow between different regions.
Denisovan were very much like Neanderthals but were an older lineage, probably more like Asian forms of Homo erectus. ALL humans since Homo erectus have been one solitary species, not separate species. Modern Melanesians have Denisovan, Neanderthal AND modern human DNA along with earlier erectus lineages.
Modern Europeans are mainly Southwest Asian forms of homo sapiens mixed with Neanderthal lineages, with migrations of BOTH modern humans and Neanderthals moving between the Near East, the Caucasus, SE Europe, and North Africa.
You students and other non-experts are just wrong about all of this. Humans are a unitary species since Homo erectus. That makes all humans between about 3 million years ago and now the same species, capable of interbreeding, and separated only by geography and particularities of culture based on specific adaptations to particular regions.
You're best off not opining on matters of human origins unless you really know the stuff, because you can do a lot of damage by spreading false information.
Dog breeds and human geographic lineages are not really the same at all. Humans evolved naturally; dog breeds were imposed on a wolf template by human interference.
