Anywhooo, i was busy tending to my asparagus when I became enthralled with the size and thickness of them all (greens pictured).
the rain had to fall just right, and the genetic makeup of the seeds produced from the parent (these were wildly sewn from a nearby asparagus fern two falls ago) must have been perfect that year.
I had all but fallen into a catatonic vegetable state from sheer awe. I was flanked on all sides by these huge intimidating green rods.
Then I saw it. The stalk which put all others to shame. A dark rich pole which stood firm and commanded the very winds to break and soil to rupture for it's headway.
At first I thought the green asparagus that came before it were sagging under their own weight; seeing the purple passion standing proudly erect however made me realize all other stalks were simply bowing to it's superior prowess.
My mouth watered and fingers twitched as I grasped the long dark thick stalk with a trembling hand.
I cut it low as I could and tossed it in the basket with the others: it's massive frame becoming even more apparent mixed in with it's scrawnier cousins.
The taste was beyond anything I could have hoped for: smooth, bold, silken, as if I were guzzling cup after cup of heavy wipping cream; while the green brothers put on quite displa of power, their taste left a bitter note in the back of my throat.

This little girl is my daughter. She is my eldest, the light of my life and perfect in every way.
Yesterday I was met with the reality of Europe, the reality of what is going on.
While enjoy the time off because of Ascension day, we rode our bikes to the playground. There, my wife and I played and laughed with our children.
My daughter is three years old, old enough to play on her own but obviously still within distance of me. She was playing in one of those contraptions you might find in a large sandbox, using her fantastic imagination to play as a baker, creating sand-sandwiches for us all to enjoy.
I take a look away for a few minutes to talk to my wife and play with my younger child and then I look back. My daughter was standing still, and across from her was a little black kid pushing his body towards her. My daughter found this weird, this is no way to play. This is not what she knows.. But this little black kid, probably no more than 5 years old, was actively pushing himself onto my girl. They were both standing up, he didn't push her or anything, just tried pressing his (covered) belly onto my daughter.
I was obviously taken aback, rushed over there and scolded the young man for doing this, because 1) it was obvious that my daughter didn't want this behavior and 2) he was bothering her. There were no parents in sight so I couldn't make it clear to black kid father or mother that this behavior is uncalled for.

He is literally pushing my daughter with ME standing right there. He has no idea that what he is doing is wrong. He thinks this is playing, obviously! 'It's what daddy does with women, right? It's only fucking normal for a black person to push his body onto white women, so I must do it as well!' This is what is going on in his head, it must be.
I quickly went into full on rage mode and pushed the kid away and scolded him and yelled at him until he ran away. I expected a dindu gorilla to show up and behead me or whatever, but no monkey came to protect it's litter.
This is the reality I face for my future. I will have to protect my girls with my own life if they want to remain happy and unspoiled. It begins. No... It already started.
