Millions of jobs in the united states are can be automated. Meanwhile we have skyrocketing birthrates of low IQ minorities who are incapable of working more complex jobs.
I think with unchecked population growth, and the extreme growth of automation and artificial intelligence, the majority of the populace will be literally unable to find work.
With this being the case, I can't imagine a way that they can exist without a massive welfare state.
