I propose a after high-school, all kids are required to serve 2 years in a pseudo-military training system from 18 year old to 20 year old.
In those 2 years, the military will provide technical and safety training.

> Small arms weapons handling
> Vehicle training (drivers ed on steroids) + heavy equipment (forklifts, bulldozers, trucks, etc)
> Emergency response to (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, cyber, terrorism, weather) disasters
Year 2
> Jobs training via vocational apprenticeship with the government agencies and affiliated sponsors (local police, local hospitals, construction & engineering, agriculture and farming, NASA/NIH/CDC research facilities, Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard)
After the kids reach 20, they are now armed with skills to proceed into college, military, trade, or back to neetdom

I agree with you senpai, the state of American healthcare is pretty shitty. I would argue that a lot of that has to do with the regulatory environment of the past few decades propping up insurance companies and making it so hospitals can charge way more than they should because their patients aren't their customers (their insurance companies are).
Of course, single payer is shitty too from a quality of care standpoint, but the majority of people would be better off if we had such a thing in the US. If I had a rare disease or something that required a complex surgery I would pay extra to go private.
I think the biggest issue, and one that obamacare was supposed to "fix," is that your ability to even PURCHASE health insurance at market price depends on your employer. I can't leave my job to start a business or go to school for a better job because an individual plan costs 500% more in my area than the one I can buy through my employer. Horseshit. That's not even "free market."
I think we either need to get a public health insurance option, or just outlaw insurance and make everything out of pocket like veterinary procedures. Makes no sense that I can afford an MRI for my dog but not myself.
