So I noticed in a thread that nothing is within walking distance if you live in a suburb. Why are suburb designed this way?
I live in a housing society like pic related and it's the best thing ever. My area is about half an hour away from two major cities where all the jobs are (Noida and Delhi). There are about 4 different malls within walking distance so I don't have to use a car unless I'm buying the month's supplies. Commute is extremely cheap (about 15 cents for a ride to both cities in a shared auto). All the apartment complexes (we call them societies) are gated with 24x7 security. I've never seen a crime in our society for the last 7 years I've lived here.
There is a shopping complex built in my society so I don't have to walk 50 steps for practically all my needs. I only visit the mall for monthly supplies or the restaurants. And the apartments aren't overly expensive. You can find two-bedroom homes in most highrises for about $60k. I live in a comfy 3-bedroom-3-toilet flat of about 2200 sqft and it's value is about $140k.
So again, how am I, a poo-in-loo, living better than most suburban Americans? Why don't you demolish the single-story homes and set up these wonderful marvels of capitalism?
