I made the switch to lightroom from VSCO like 2 months ago due to my tablet dying on me so right now I'm still learning and doing a lot of experimenting, thus the process is a bit different for each image. Currently I'm messing around a lot with the HSL to further enhance contrast and remove unwanted colours

yeah I edited it, lifted the blacks and made the image a bit colder to match the whole winter atmosphere thing. the shot was made with the fujifilm XF 35mm f1.4 that I sold recently to fund the samyang 12, kind of miss that lens a bit, the focus was crap using it on the XE-1 but the images it put out were so nice.

problem with the bottom pic is that there's no black whatsover, if you'd take anay kind of amateur potatoing course you'd know EVERY pic in order to be "easy on the eye" and not screaming "I've been post produced in order to save shot!!" is it HAVE to have a WHITE and a BLACK SPOT in it. otherwise eyes cannot discerne the overall lighting and it looks fake.

I shot all of these with a Fujifilm XE-1 plus the XF 18-55 kit lens and the XF 35 f1.4 that I recently sold, film shots were on a nikon F90x with a 35-105 shot entirely at 35, recently got a 35 f2 though
I don't actually try to go for a particular "film look" or anything, I just mess around in lightroom until I got some settings that I liked and I make that my preset, it's something that I'm still experiment with at the moment, so many of the images I posted in this thread were post-processed with various different settings, I think I'll re-process them all once I come up with a preset that I really like and decide to stick with!

about this shot, the original colour was a very monochromatic orange to begin with, I just messed with split-toning to enhance it and make it more warm and saturated :D
extremely coincidentally, after posting that shot I decided to revisit the location today and managed to shoot pic related. when I saw the guy getting out of the water I hurried there and was fumbling to get the shot, so I messed up on the exposures for a bit, thus the sun didn't turn out quite like I would've liked it. what do you guys think? the lighting originally was not orange like the previous pic btw, but I used split-toning to give it sort of a similar look

although the lens has a great close focus distance of 20cm, it still isn't a very good lens for taking cat pictures because it's so damn wide lol.

this is interesting. there is a sense of anonymity in that there are no clear markings telling us where this is, but her ethnicity explains a bit. the building and the large plant fill the frame. she is enveloped by both but she is on her cell phone and carrying a modern bag. she is in her natural habitat. the perspective is one of looking outside in, peeking into an place wildly unknown. the tile, the blue gate, both are descriptive. and of course her expression; im not good with interpreting facial expressions but, for me, it is a bit ambiguous in that, you have caught her by surprise, you have captured her genuine nature, her softness at that moment she has become aware of your presence, all while she is on the phone with someone. is she speaking? is the phone ringing? i think the image could use a bit of sharpening. but the colors are slightly muted, which i like, but i would not mind seeing a more contrasted and saturated version for comparison. i do like the framing tho, and im not exactly sure what that metal bar stuff is on the right and top right of the picture. care to explain?

as for pp i would rather have contrast than raised blacks but the raised blacks kinda go with the shabbiness of the scene

thanks man, the pic with the old man and his grandkid wasn't at sea though lol. it's a bit of a meaningful shot to me, the old man was probably suffering from parkinson or something as you could visibly see him shaking as he moves around, and he wasn't very responsive to his surroundings, but he was caring paying a lot of attention to his grandson, so I found it really touching

This one is my favourite too, I like the contrast of the vivid blue against the neutral wall, and works much better than the cyclist with the towels due to its simplicity.
