Well, I shared this same essay here a while ago when it was first published. It just got published translated into english and I figured more people would be able to enjoy it here now. Meanwhile I'll be posting here some of the shots that didn't make it to the final edit for this particular editor. Enjoy and C&C .

I read and enjoyed this on Petapixel when it first was posted. Is this you?
>>2843746
yeah i am the author, sharing my stuff
>>2843748
Great! That's awesome! When I first read it, I was surprised that it was on Petapixel. The photos are great, but the story seems like so much more than the usual "My experience with the NEX3n Not a review!" shit that makes up most of the content.
Congrats!
Are you a /p/ regular? Or just stopping in?

I come here from time to time, /p/ has the most honest gear reviews overal

It's difficult to understand the real emotion from your writing. Are they TRYING to kill each other, or is it merely trying to force the other side back with pain and intimidation? You seem surprised that the man didn't sling his stone at you while you were on the ground in pain, which suggests that it's almost to the death brutal battle, but mention tents and spectators and the idea that it's fun.
It's obviously more than a renaissance fair type thing where people pretend and people don't get hurt, but is it a full on battle with anger and bitterness and bloodlust? Are people actively trying to kill each other?
>>2843756
Its both things at the same time. Some people watch, and some people fight and try to kill each other.
>>2843742
I really love this one, though I wish it were his face, rather than his back.
Obviously, it's tough to get faces in the action shots, without being out a head of the front lines making yourself really vulnerable, but the fact that most of those shots are of backs, or hidden faces really feels like a disappointment.
You focused a lot on the aggression and the pain and the toughness, but didn't get very many shots that made us feel like it was a cultural tradition, and that these people were friends and family off the field of battle. Hopefully you have more of those in the unpublished extras you're talking about posting here.

So the men in the fight will actually come up to someone and be excited to kill them, if they have the chance? Like straight up murder? you laying on the ground with your camera, wounded, that would be a normal KILL at this event?
I'm trying to comprehend the mindset. I used to have rock fights with my friends when we were young, but it was all in fun. We'd try to hit each other, and would be excited at our great aim, or laugh when someone went ow, but if one of my friends fell down, I wouldn't run up and throw a rock at his head as hard as I could in victory, I'd go be sure he was okay, and feel bad if I severely hurt him.
Considering that you say the only thing at stake is bragging rights and pride, it seems odd that people would be actively trying to literally kill people TO DEATH for what seems like a yearly tradition.

It happens, I've seen some videos around of people being finished off, Gonna look for them.

Well I read a comment this morning claiming that the a6300 has better autofocus than any DSLR (Which includes monsters like the 5Dmk3, 7Dmk2, 1Dx, D4/D5, etc)
so I don't know how true that statement is.
Either way, glad to have you here.

Another gathering. Liked this one a lot. It made it into vice but not into petapixel. Trying to think like an editor, maybe he tried to highlight the action so the most calm photos (like the horseman in the first post) were left behind. But anyway, i won't question that, I suck at editing.

Not him, but is everything at the same time, is like the purge movie, everything is legal, some people may not want to kill but if happens, it happens, others are thirsty for blood, they really want to kill someone more than winning the combat, others just want to win and others do it for the lols,
>>2843811
Wow. That sounds... shocking. Cultural differences at a very core level that make it seem crazy to an American.
>>2843756
not him either, but peruvians are fucking vicious. also a drunk peruvian is a hate machine. they hate everything, and they hate other fellow peruvians with a passion.
I liked this moment too
