Well, yeah. Some of you may be hearing about our situation here. Protests against the government of Mrs. Rousseff and the Workers' Party continue, as our economy deteriorates and Petrobras' scandal involving major politicians from most parties is unfolded. We also had some pro-government protests, but the fact* is the majority of brazilians want the end of Mrs. Rousseff government. On March 13th, Brazil saw the biggest protest in its history, with more than 3 million people** attending the movement across the country -- protests against the government. I went to the biggest one, in São Paulo, but unfortunately I haven't many photos from that day because of... reasons. Anyway, protests are becoming common here as we approach the conclusion of all this, so here's something from what I've been doing in the last weeks...

(I'm afraid this first one is the best, I guess, so I'm sorry. Also, as always, sorry for my bad english).

*This statement is supported by any survey here without big percentages variation, although some institutes that do these surveys are regard as biased.

**Numbers from our police forces. Organizers speak of higher numbers.

This avenue actually concentrates all protests against the government (and some pro-government protests, too). So the camping eventually becomes just part of a bigger protest.

Did you photograph these with any particular use in mind? You're missing some pretty bog standard shots if you planned on going to the press with these (large group shots for example)

>>2801828
>>2801836
>>2801878
I'd argue these are the strongest images of the set.

>>2801823
This isn't very evocative and I wouldn't use it to open with. I'd probably place it towards the end of the line up honestly. The composition and framing is great but you need to know when to kill your babies. Sometimes a great image just doesn't work with the rest of the set and I think that's the case here.

>>2801828
Love this, shame the man on the left isn't shouting instead of just smiling. It takes the passion out of the photo but otherwise the framing is exactly what it should be.

>>2801836
Great shot

>>2801844
>>2801858
>>2801860
>>2801862
There are a few shots that I think needed TTL fill flash so I'll do all these now. They all look kind of sinister because of the lighting

>>2801888
>>2801853
Don't have both of these shots, the stronger is >>2801888. I'd cut the first one out completely as it doesn't carry the message as well without people in the scene reacting to the imagery

>>2801869
Great portrait, cant fault it. If you put any more work into framing this than it would have looked a bit too formal. This is great, I like it a lot.

>>2801873
I think you're a bit too far to the left of the woman here

>>2801876
I'd cut this one out. It's unfortunate how the flag fell on this ladies face but it's causing the whole thing to not work

>>2801877
>>2801878
These are better versions of >>2801873. The positioning much better here

>>2801885
You've got better pictures of the flag, I would cut this one out of the set.

>>2801890
There's a bit too much nose and teeth going on here for me, I also think that this guy isn't carrying the emotion very well and looks more like he's cheering at a football match
>>
>>2801893
You're too low here, there's barely enough of the mans face in the frame here to hold my attention.

>>2801895
I'm guessing the reason you're keeping this one is how good the right flag looks and I'd want to keep it for that too but again you've got better pictures of the flag and there's too much taking away from this image to make it work. Like the left flag not being lit well, the text on the stage being far too prominent and the two peoples faces being very clearly in focus on the bottom right.

>>2801902
There's not enough going on here to merit including it in the set.

>>2801839
I missed out on this one in my first post. Her face and chin fucking ruin this otherwise it would be great.

Overall OP they are good. Some are great. Personally I'd drop the set to the following pictures.

>>2801823
>>2801828

Did you get any big group shots because the set is screaming out for one

>Did you photograph these with any particular use in mind?

Actually no, to be honest... I mean, I'm heavily influenced by photojournalism, but I see it rather as a way of learning "photography". I really don't know at this point what kind of "photography" I'm trying to achieve, to be honest, and it's not unfair to say I'm a lost photographer in some sense...

>You're missing some pretty bog standard shots if you planned on going to the press with these (large group shots for example)

I have photos like that, actually (picture related). I just didn't like'em, mostly because they fail to give any idea of the real dimension of these protests. Probably they're just not well executed, but anyway.

>This isn't very evocative and I wouldn't use it to open with. I'd probably place it towards the end of the line up honestly. The composition and framing is great but you need to know when to kill your babies. Sometimes a great image just doesn't work with the rest of the set and I think that's the case here.

I see. You're probably right. These photos are in chronological order, actually, but they don't work well as a "group" indeed. This is also related with my "condition" as a photographer at this moment, I guess...

>There are a few shots that I think needed TTL fill flash so I'll do all these now. They all look kind of sinister because of the lighting

Yeap. I was expecting a better light; didn't happen, haha. The avenue is well lit, exception being exactly the place I took these...

>Don't have both of these shots, the stronger is >>2801888 (You). I'd cut the first one out completely as it doesn't carry the message as well without people in the scene reacting to the imagery

Noted.

>Great portrait, cant fault it. If you put any more work into framing this than it would have looked a bit too formal. This is great, I like it a lot.

Thanks!

>I'd cut this one out. It's unfortunate how the flag fell on this ladies face but it's causing the whole thing to not work

Funny thing, I liked this photo for this very reason, haha... It's a series, anyway. Is this better? (Picture related)

>These are better versions of >>2801873 (You). The positioning much better here
>You've got better pictures of the flag, I would cut this one out of the set.

Noted.

>There's a bit too much nose and teeth going on here for me, I also think that this guy isn't carrying the emotion very well and looks more like he's cheering at a football match

I included this one mainly because in the last thread someone felt I wasn't getting people's emotion as I was in the first threads, haha. But yeah, probably I did this better in the past.

>You're too low here, there's barely enough of the mans face in the frame here to hold my attention.

I see. This guy had an interesting face (obviously), and I took some photos of him. In the end of the day, I wasn't pleased with any of them, which is sad. I may revisit my raws to see if there's something better, but I don't think so...

>I'm guessing the reason you're keeping this one is how good the right flag looks and I'd want to keep it for that too but again you've got better pictures of the flag and there's too much taking away from this image to make it work. (...)

This one is the best in a burst. The scene seemed to be great, but I guess the final result wasn't that great after all.

>There's not enough going on here to merit including it in the set.

Noted. I realize now I didn't conceive this thread as a "story", hence the set seems somewhat... unstable?... anyway. Lesson learned, I hope.

>I missed out on this one in my first post. Her face and chin fucking ruin this otherwise it would be great.

There's another one with her looking directly at me lol. Seemed awkward.

Did you do any post?

Well thats a dumb question since its photojournalism.

The vinetteing is very ditracting you could possibly dial that down in camera raw. Also the white balance is off, a majority of the images look too blue.

Take that into considertsion next time you shoot.
