I'm about to get a kit lens for my brand new d7100 until have enough money to buy a 24mm prime or to back to film. Is it worth getting the AF-P? Does someone have it? Are there reviews?

Gear thread asshole.
In my experience AFII is the right choice.
Sharp as a razor like most 18-55, great stabilizer, fast and silent autofocus and I like the locking weird thing they added. They are all pretty much the same thing, optics are just slightly better in the ugly-ass, pear-shaped AFII in my opinion.

Fuck off, let people post whatever the fuck they want

no u fuck off

USE THE FUCKING GEAR THREAD!

>buy a 24mm prime
Waste of money on a a crop body.
Just get the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 instead.
As for the meantime: all kit lenses are fine for their slow apertures, they also all have shit build quality.
Just get the cheapest you can find 2nd hand.

I just got a 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 and a 35mm f1.8 for less then 150 USD for my D7100.
nikon's best kit lens is either the 16-80 or 24-120, depending on what format you're shooting.

>$200 lens
>waste of money
buy a $700 lens instead :DDDd
>>2794602
af-s ii is best.
but you should really buy a nifty fifty instead.
>>2795300
you saved $200 when you realized that the kit lens is shit and keep it in your drawer.

U wot m8, 24 on crop is a great 35mm on ff substitute. Although I have the sigma 18 35 1.8 I really liked the 24 2.8 mf sigma.
>>2795300
>$200 lens
Which ancient and slow 24mm where you planning to buy, exactly?
Even the f/1.8 is as much as the Sigma.
The f/1.4 is double that.
>>2795409
Yeah, too bad the 18-35 doesn't have a 24mm setting.....
>>2795434
Its fuckehuge and expensive in comparison, as I have said, I own it myself but if only use it at 24mm, why buy a 700€ Zoom AS opposed to a 80€ Prime.
>>2795436
Again, WHICH prime are we talking about here?
And why does OP needs to save up for a $200/$80 lens?
I was assuming he wanted to buy the $1600 24mm f/1.4G - that's what I called a waste of money on a crop body.
>>2795441
Doesn't matter, there are a lot of cheap 24s for Nikon Mount.
>>2795443
>there are a lot of cheap 24s for Nikon Mount.
No there not.
>>2795444
Sigma 24 2.8 Ultrasharp mk 1 and 2. Nikons own manual Focus 24mm.
>>2795441
Op just got his [presumably first] camera
It's not new, it's actually two models old.
>I was assuming he wanted to buy the $1600 24mm f/1.4G
Really good deduction there, guy.
The most obvious 24mm choice for his camera is the 24mm f/2.8 DX, which is a perfectly good lens and definitely good enough for putting on a D7100.
>>2795456
>24mm f/2.8 DX
Which doesn't even exist lol.
t. Other anemone.

24mm 2.8 d, screw drive af. Want some decent 35mm equiv with hyperfocal lines
This is the one I want, ~400€ new, 250 second hand. Should work great on the d7xxxs
