For the first time in a while I feel like I have enough pictures to make my own post. It was snowing out pretty hard in Boston today and then there was a really nice sunset, so I took a half day and took some pics walking around before going home to snowblow the driveway.

That's awesome, it's a great area to work. I'm in the seaport now but we're moving to Summer St near DTX next month. Pretty psyched about that.
And yeah I always walk through there and love that little area under the overhang in that building. It's such a cool scene, and even though I like this pic I still don't think I was able to really capture it the way I wanted to. I always have my camera with me though so I'll have plenty more opportunities to retake and get it just right.

Thanks, I took two photos here and the first one I got the whole truck in the frame. I didn't like it too much so I retook it and liked the second much better.
I also aimed a bit higher though and I think that's what improved the composition the most, so maybe having it higher and the truck all in the frame would have been best. But I also like how it's cut off because then your eyes don't get trapped into that dead space behind it. With it cut off I feel it keeps the focus more on the plow and other red elements in the scene.

With the GR I just set it to auto in-camera and adjust to taste in Lightroom.
I'm a huge proponent of getting things right in-camera, which is why I always shoot with correction filters when I'm shooting film, but on digital when shooting RAWs it's honestly a waste of time.

Dude I know this is insignificant but I just recently went to Boston to visit my brother at MIT, and when i saw your post as well as it's thumbnail, i immediately thought of two buildings: The government building seen in the OP photo (is it city hall? I dont think i ever learned what it really was) and the second building in my head was the Union Oyster House, where I ate lunch one of the days I was in Boston. Hah, that's pretty cool. They're definitely two pretty iconic buildings, but Boston has a lot of those so it's pretty cool it was those exact two.
And yeah, it's the city hall. A very polarizing building due to its brutalist architecture and really awful, inefficient, impractical design. I personally think it looks awesome and love it, but inside it's a nightmare. It looks amazing but it's all raw concrete and has gigantic open spaces with up to 200 foot tall ceilings. It costs so much to heat and the concrete traps moisture which attracts mold and all sorts of bad shit, so a lot of people who work there develop chronic respiratory diseases and whatnot.
It'd fit right in if it was built in the old USSR or something, but it's admittedly a bit out of place here. Nonetheless, I love having such a perfect example of such a great and relatively rare architectural style right here in my own backyard. And to top it off, this is one of my favorite pictures I've taken of it. It's a surprisingly hard building to photograph.

Mostly just fucking with the sliders. I generally underexpose when I shoot so I have to bring it back up a bit in post, then I'll just adjust things to make it look like Portra. All that's done in Lightroom and then for my architectural stuff I'll usually do some perspective correction in PS afterwards.

These are already plenty small enough and personally I would be more than happy to see /p/ start using 1500 or 2000 pixels as the standard. I didn't get a bigass monitor to look at 1000px thumbnails.

Thanks, I agree about the grain. The super clean and sanitized look that modern digital cameras give you just isn't for me, so this is my compromise. I think the people who don't like it are comparing it to digital, and the people who do are comparing it to film. I'm in the latter camp, but I can see where the other side is coming from.

Nice, I like that shot. It's fun to shoot from street level for sure, but I think this pic I got of it about 10 stories up is my favorite. I need to shoot it more though, it's a really cool and unique building.

Thanks man, I work in the Seaport and walk everyday through downtown between work and North Station where I commute from.
And that snow day was awesome for sure. It wasn't even that miserable out considering the weather. Now yesterday with that torrential downpour, man that was a shitty walk to the train station. 2 minutes out the door of my building and I felt like I just jumped in a pool with all my clothes on.
