Try to position a horizon line in the upper or the lower third. It is more interesting that way. And which one you choose depends on the subject. Here the sky is pretty, so it would have been better if you showed even more of it, so you should have positioned the horizon line lower. The sand is boring, no texture, no colors, nothing, so there should have been less of that. ;)
It's one of the basics, like a rule of thirds, it is up to you if you want to break it or not, just be aware of it.

Is this some sort of an arthouse thriller of a kid running away from kindergarten?
I doubt that's what you were into here, other than that there isn't much going on photographically. The first one is pretty empty, but at least there is some story to it, the second one is plain bland and out of focus, the third one shows some inclination towards something abstract - as such I like it - but the subject isnt really interesting and there is too much dead space present.
Also if you're out rock n roling with a 400D consider bringing a tripod/monopod with you so you can stabilize the image and don't have to shoot at 800 ISO. 1/100 seems too much handheld too.

and turned all the lights off. Set the exposure (i think that's the f-stop thing? Sorry, I'm still learning all this) as high as it could go, then set the camera on a 3sec timer. Hit the shutter button, and when I heard it go off I would start spinning the toy real fast.
