Please use the word bokeh correctly. It's the quality of the out of focus areas of an image, not the out of focus areas themselves. What you're doing is like using the word "hue" in place of "light".

Oh no, the contrast is definitely great. Stuff like this needs to be high contrast to emphasize the contours. "Crushed" blacks just means they are so black that there is no photo data in them.

The 2nd one was done in FOV Classic Blue which is a quirky sigma false colour mode. It works quite well every now and then in scenes that aren't very colourful by themselves.
I think you should use Photoshop, unless your software has a way of dealing with the histogram itself (levels, curves, whatev). Weird miscoloration seems to be happening. With levels/curves you'd also be able to brighten up the dark spots without overexposing the sky like on >>2728148
A DPM bro! How are you finding the DP3? I went for the 2 as I found it was much more versatile as a camera - and I got a decent deal on it, 3 batteries, viewfinder, hood and close up lens, all packaging, a couple months of use for €400. Which is pretty much for how much they go new without any extra, right now...

He's using a Foveon sensor camera, editing the files is really hard at first, requires practice, but its worth it.
This is to say:
- To get an editable file, you need to get a very flat double sized TIFF out of Sigma Photo Pro
- once in photoshop or your editing tool of choice, you need to be very careful about adjusting exposure, as Foveon sensors display very bad color splotches instead of regular sensor noise. Shadows go all magenta and green, it's pretty hideous
You can't shoot over ISO 400 with these cameras, and ISO 100 is preferable. BUT! You can shoot excellent B&W files even at ISO 3200 by using only the blue channel... it's a little trick, which I think OP should have used - he didn't have a tripod, so his only hope was going for B&W photos.

Fill light is a double edged sword, it tends to make pics a little unnatural in my experience, but yeah you can definitely edit only with SPP!
I love shooting at night with the DP2, but... yeah, tripod, patience, batteries, and a lot of post work to fix the shadows.
