Imagine you're going on 4 week trip. There will be a mixture of all types of Photography and you need to pack light. But you still want to bring a DSLR. What is the minimum setup that you can live with?
last time i made a big trip i carried with myself:
-dslr+kit lens
-zenit slr+2 lenses
-pentacon six+1 lens+portra 400
dslr did its job, took about 3000 shots, but cant be bothered to watch at them.
zenit was a light leaky piece of shit, almost all photos were lost. film was ultramax 400. never again.
pentacon did gud first roll, i pretty cool pictures from there. 2nd roll and it went to ass, the frame counter broke so i ended taking pictures thinking it had film but it didnt. lel.
oh, also carried a tripod.

>you need to pack light. But you still want to bring a DSLR
Well there's your first mistake.
I'd bring an APS-C mirrorless and a kit lens. if I'm done packing and still have a bit of weight and space left, I'd throw in a normal/wide fast prime.
I bring my dslr with my trusted 24-105 f4.
It does get a bit heavy but, still love taking photos with it.

Only listing gear I have.

i was on a trip with a d5100 and a 35 1.8 (not mine, borrowed)
I found that to be the perfect lens for me. So for me its either that or a fullframe with a 50.

I agree tele is pointless unless you are on a safari or Yellowstone or shit like that.
You like the IIIf? I just got one. How long does it take to get used to the two view finders?
It's a beautifully built camera but its ergonomics are mid-evil. Could be worse I suppose.
Olympus E-M1
Pana-Leica 25mm f/1.4
Olympus 45mm f/1.8
Ricoh GR
I'm pretty anal about packing light all the time, that's what I took to Scotland for two weeks earlier this year. Normally I would also probably bring a film camera so I guess add either a Nikon F3 plus one lens or a Leica M3 plus one lens. In the morning I pick which camera I want to shoot with that day and bring it with me, the others stay at the hotel.

Actually that EXIF just reminded me that at the time I had the Olympus 17mm instead of the Panasonic-Leica 25mm, but whatever.

Wow great argument fagtron you sure convinced me with those hot opinions
Ricoh GR + 3x 16gb SD cards

That's it. Traveling with a DSLR is for chumps or pros. I'm neither
>APS-C DSLR
>35/1.8, 50/1.4, 100/2.8 macro
>some spare batteries, memory cards, and such
not really a wide-angle type of guy
I tend not to travel light though, because I'd rather pack too much stuff and have my back ache from lugging it around than travel light and wish I had something that I didn't bring. Personal preference though.
Canon 7d + 15-85 thing - cheap, fast and reliable.
Nikon P900 and an extra battery.

I carry a Ricoh GR, and a DSLR with a 70-300 mm on it. That basically covers everything and I don't have to bother with switching lenses.
Sometimes I'll carry a nifty fifty too, but rarely.
Bronica SQ-Ai, fuckton of portra.

>There will be a mixture of all types of Photography
I usually carry:
28-70 f/2.8L
70-200 f/2.8L
medium weight monopod
But I usually know where I am going and what I expect to be shooting so to that I might add one or two of the following:
24 tse
small macro
Flash
amd replace monopod with tripod
a6000
EF to E Adapter
FD to E Adapter
10-18mm STM
50mm f1.2 FD
70-200mm f4 L
3x 16GB SD
1x 64GB SDXC for XAVCS video
5 battery packs cause the a6k drains the battery like nothing else
But then, i'd now have something even lighter
Ricoh GR II
64GB SD
5 Battery packs (even though that would last for days)
d750 + 35mm 1.8
Add the 50, 24, and 85 in that order.
My point and shoot
lol
D750, 28-300 VRII, 100mm/2.8 macro, 1 extra battery, 5 extra SD cards

50/1.4
70-200/2.8
2x flashes
2x pocket reflectors

When I need something longer I just crop.

28 1.8
50 1.8

Id say a 24/28-70 should be good for you,
f4 is enough for anything not studio.
also a 16-35 and a 70-200

>4 week trip
You need to define what type of trip. For example; is it a long road trip with camping and only food and gas stops? Is it a vacation destination in a first world country? A third world country? For leisure or business?
If it's for leisure:
For the road trip and third world country I would pack a film SLR with a 50mm prime lens and a variety of rolls. Maybe two to three rolls of snapshit film like Lomo 400 or Ultramax, and four rolls of Portra. No need to charge since you're on the road and less risk of it getting stolen by sand dindus in a third world country.
First world country I'd pack a mirrorless or maybe even a higher end point and shoot, with a prime lens.
No tripod since I'm there for leisure. Seriously sometimes you guys are worse than the people who are always on their phones.

I went to a month trip 5 months ago, I went with a 14mm f2.8, 85mm f1.4 35mm f1.4 and 5d
All i used was the 35mm f1.4, if I where to travel again i would only take that lens.
