I'm an amateur photographer with a very needy job and I was wondering : do you often shoot while being wasted ?
For me, it's the case, because I'm shit at street photo and the only time I can take something worthwhile is during social gatherings.
The first times, a large batch of them was a blurry mess, but I learned with a lot of training some instincts to get some nice results.
What is your experience ? Also, post the drunk pictures you want to share.

I needed motivation to cycle a few miles in a freezing night and lug my tripod and valuable lenses in a cemetary, so getting drunk was a good general numbing candidate. I did ballpark bulb exposures on very forgiving film so it worked out allright.

The idea was to be inebriated enough for it not to be eerie. It was well lit as you can tell and the moon was close to full so nah, not a creepy rural cemetary setting. Mostly cold and somber, what with all the dead people I was walking over.

One of the problem of drinking and taking pictures is that you have to keep your distance to not startle your subject. So ultimately, the composition between different captures is roughly the same and it's difficult to step out of your habits.

Problem is though, when I'm drunk, I snap away, too often without thinking. And I forget that that the mju only has one focus point smack in the centre. So I get a lot of wasted shots plus a lot of missed shots with nicely sharp background.

This is my overall attitude towards photography over time. But yeah, I can't take pictures when I'm drunk. My hand shakes and I have no stabilization on my cameras.

Luckily I got it back. Cost me £10 but thanks to an honest customer and driver all was good.
Drunk snapshits are best snapshits.
I carry an old Minolta rangefinder and some spare rolls to the bars when I remember to. Always entertaining getting the negs back.

What were your flash settings?
Pic related is very similar in style. It was taken at 1/64 105mm on a 18mm lens.
The 105mm on the flash paired with the weak flash will concentrate the light on your subject. I guess you fired yours way too strong and wide, flashing the whole club and annoying people that add nothing to your picture.

As you can see in the exif the exposure time was 2 seconds. Moving your camera while you expose will of course give you these trails of light, like a ling exposure of a street.
Now, to get other parts actually sharp you need to use a flash as well. Set it to go off on second curtain and you can combine the trails of a long exposure with the sharpness of a short exposure.
I don't drink alcohol but I've shot on MDMA and weed, (vape) and I've really loved the images I've gotten. Usually I'm some place new when I go on benders so that helps too.

cheers. each to their own - since they're film long exposures in artificial light with no colour reference/grayscale shot, I didn't even try fiddling around with the raw scans on these ones. Every intepretation of the negative'll be subjective, yours is a bit closer to reality, slightly ish.
