Did a session with a traveling model last weekend at a shared studio. These digital shots were done with my D700 and either a 105 macro or the 85 1.8 D. Lights were alienbees - some with a parabolic umbrella key + softbox kicker, others with a single gridded beauty dish, and still others with little ambient light and an LED light string.

I do headshots and portraits with more typical "beauty" lighting and since this was a figure-style workshop, the hard lighting and black background were really meant for the light v shadow look or isolated body contours. Some I like better than others with the hard light. For instance, I like #2 and #6's hard lighting and pose a whole lot.

Thanks. Here's the color, less contrasty version but her gaze doesn't have as much impact as the B&W one. Unfortunately, like the other anon said, there are some distracting hairs on her breast that aren't as distracting here (IMO) because the bulk of her hair over her shoulder doesn't disappear into shadow.

I agree. If had been shooting this session totally alone, I may have experimented with some shutter dragging to get more DoF so I could collect the lighting effect from the strings without washing them out with the off-camera flash.
