What are you working on in your lawn this weekend?

Pics and questions welcome
>>
>>791177
I haven't mowed a lawn since I was a teenager. It was good work back when i was a kid. And if any neighborhood kid offered to do it I would gladly pay him. But at this point in my life all my lawncare is done by an intrepid group of young mexicans.

+1

I would much rather pay the $20/wk than waste my whole Saturday afternoon instead of fishing.

Plus they do a better job edging and all that stuff.
>>
>>791861
My mexicans are 30 per week but these fuckers are good. Mowing, trimming, they even tried to tend the flowers until my wife told them to stop. I don't even have to put my dog inside anymore if these wetbacks tried to rob me my dog would lick them to death.

I really wish a neighborhood kid would offer to do it. I got paid 10$ a yard when i was a kid and it bought me my first car. Even if he was shit and i had to trim it up i would gladly pay a kid to do it. But for now i have my mexicans.
>>
>>791882
The $20/wk is only because they do the whole neighborhood. And kids these days are too lazy, they would want like $50/wk to do it.

if it takes you the whole saturday to mow a lawn you're doing something wrong.
>>
>>791916
Not a whole Saturday, I said a whole Saturday afternoon.

Between picking up sticks and shit, mowing the front and back, weed whacking, edging, then breaking out the blower to clean up, that is like 3hrs wasted.
>>
>>791916
An acre with a push mower is surprisingly time consuming. Did it once and it took me about 5 hours. Ever since then, landscapers are the way to go.

use to work for the city subcontract, drive this around all day in parks. pretty fun job
>>
>>791916
Over in Murrica they usually have fuckhuge lawns around the house and nothing else
I only have 300 m^2 of the property as lawn (not just a square shape), mowing takes like 20-30min
Threw some more fertiliser a few days ago as it got pretty thin and slightly yellow-ish overall despite the rain (I don't mulch but rather compost the foliage so there's constantly nutrients going away)
>>
>>791882
Don't talk about other people like that just because you make a few dollars more than them.

you don't need to pick up twigs if you've got a higher hp lawnmower, it'll crush them to pieces.
>weed whacking, edging
you can just tilt the head of your weedwacker and do the edges with it, it's a whole lot faster but takes a bit of practise.
>>792426
why would you mow an acre with a push mower.
>>792512
I maintain a bunch of larger properties, if it takes you too long to do your lawn it's probably because the tools you're using are shit.

I use professional tools and it takes me about 3-4 hours to mow the lawns of about 80 vacation houses.
>>
>>792512

>>
>>792520
>you don't need to pick up twigs
It's not the twigs. Lawnmowers do not like coconuts.

>>
>>791916
This. It takes me 30-60 minutes, and that's way the fuck too long. I'm looking for a reason to shrink it even more. Or rather, I have a chunk of lawn that I'm looking to replace with something better and more beneficial. I just don't get the fucking point in manicuring large swaths of grass simply to make it look good.
>>
>>792527
The fuck is that? That is tiny.

And the coconuts come from a tree in my neighbor's yard. Not even mine. Even a little part of the husk will straight stall the lawnmower if it gets caught up right.

I think huge lawns are an insult to garden space.

if you don't plan to do something with such a fuck huge piece of land don't buy it or sell part of it.

but atleast it's better than tiles and gravel.

it's my nap-lawn, my yard isn't exactly large and I didn't want to waste gardening space.

>Even a little part of the husk will straight stall the lawnmower
mine crushes rock.

those plastic mid-tier leaf-rakes are nice for picking up debris.

>this is what my lawn looked like when I moved in.
>>
>>792536
I agree, 100%. The area that I'm wanting to nix next gets a lot of shade though. I'm just trying to figure out what I can put there that isn't useless, does well in shade after about 11AM (I'm at 5000' altitude, so partial sun isn't as bad as it is in, say, Oregon,) and doesn't get in the way. I tilled the sunny portion of that grass 4 years ago and have been growing food on it ever since. It's actually more work, but I don't regret it, because I get something out of it.

Meh I'm OK with the 20-30 minutes it takes me (twice a week from April to October if it's wet, once a week or less in March and November, and rarely in the winter months)
Couldn't use anything than a small hand mower anyway because the area is a bit intricate (a couple trees in it, narrow edges here and there and especially a steep, narrow corridor to the higher-lying part of the lawn, pic related, which you definitely cannot squeeze one of those seat-mowers through)

> that isn't useless,
herbs like marjoram, mint, oregano, parsley, cilantro and chives tend to do well in shadier gardens.

>>792547
you should be able to do that with a zero-turn mower.

>this lawn always looks like shit because that tree is a Ailanthus altissima.
>>
>>792560
It's a 30° or so incline and only about 70cm in breadth (hand mowers just so fit through, they're also self-driving which is enough for me), plus investing €1000+ just to save a couple minutes simply isn't worth it desu
>Ailanthus altissima
Don't wanna remove it? They're not getting old anyway, shoot relatively late and don't smell nice (some say like jizz but I don't think so), well at least it's not a walnut, almost nothing grows under those

it's not my yard, I just do maintenance there.

it reeks of rotten grass and garbage, the only plants that smell like semen are hederas.

if nothing grows underneath it atleast you have an excuse to not grow anything instead of creating a piss poor attempt at a lawn.
>>
Ivy? I'd rather describe at least the leaves smelling more like parsley, dunno about the fruits
>>
>>792639
it's the flower that smells like semen.

it attracts a shit ton of insects though.
>>
I just let my lawn grow however the fuck it wants to and then I mow it with a decent pushmower when I feel it gets too high, but I just usually let it grow because I don't give a shit.

I live in a rural area too and the worst I've see were some blacksnakes and one copperhead which I'm pretty sure was eventually killed by blacksnakes. It's such a sisyphean thing to deal with a lawn and the only people I have ever seen take it seriously are pathetic, soft-handed men from the suburbs who only leave their boring, manufactured home to cut the grass on a gigantic lawnmower for less than an acre.

It really likes my climate and soil. I put some in once, and before the end of the summer I was mowing it regularly because it had spread into the lawn and had choked it out. I eventually had to kill everything just to get rid of it.

Yeah, that sounds like the natural habitat of M. aquatica here (pic is a few km away from me on the banks of the Rhine which gets sometimes flooded, also heavy soil)
That species smells rather bad though especially when made into a tea, collected some of them one time thinking "Cool, tons of free fresh mint", ended up tasting gasoline-like

It is like $150 per time to start and that doesn't include trimming. Then again, there's a lot to mow around.

>>791916
This is what I use. It has a grass vacuum that I can back up to the compost, pull the lever to dump then continue mowing. It takes around 6 hours to do 3 acres simply because there's a lot to mow around.

I have both peppermint (left, some Italian variety I bought from hardware store and planted there back in February) and lemon balm (right) growing vigorously in a planter, hard to tell the two apart at this point, every 2 weeks or so I harvest it down a good chunk and make some tea out of it, the combination is great

try turning that big as lawn into woods or part of the lawn, where you dont frequent as often. Yeah the grass will be longer than the trees first, but later it will be magnificient. If you have kids, they will love, plant som fruit trees as well, you'll be harvesting fruit and in a few years also lumber for your fireplace.
