#41- "3 Day Weekend" Edition

Previous Thread:
>>764382

Fuck Mondays. Takin the day off and gonna try and get some fishin in after running some errands in the morning. Can't beat weekday fishing.

And to the anon trying to identify bass- just remember green will normally be a largemouth while smallmouth are more brown. Slightly different pattern too, most largemouth have a dark line down the center running laterally and smallmouth don't. Although these FL largemouth don't have that distinct line as much as other places. Largemouth make up the majority of bass pics that you will see, much more common. Smallmouth are pretty though.

Talk about fishin.

I can't remember the last time I saw a spotted bass. Are they in the midwest much? Rock bass are kinda the same, one of those fish that are supposedly in lots of lakes and rivers but I never catch.

How the fuck can girls like this exist? I've been to the Florida keys, beaches all over the east and west coast, Nassau, Mediterranean beaches and more, and I'm not sure I've EVER seen a girl with a rack like that in person.

Yeah, those are pretty ridiculous. But come to my zone, we can go chill on Ft. Lauderdale Beach or South Beach and it won't take long to see something close. They probably won't have a killer largemouth in front of them though.

Keys isn't so much a beach body place, but I'm suprised you haven't seen something nice in the Bahamas or Cali.

Honestly, I see a lot more like pic related.

It's pretty fat, like the size of a ping pong ball maybe a little smaller

I feel it's gonna be very productive

There was a girl in the class that graduated high school right before me with a rack just like that, absolutely massive

Now she's engaged to some spec ops sergeant

Cool. Can't go wrong there. I love #4's for bass, I'm normally running #3's if there's a chance of big Mayans or small sneks or #4's if I'm just going for largemouth.

You did gud on the colors too. I think I like the gold blades a tiny bit better than silver since silver can be too bright on sunny days.

>>

You embed the tip of the hook into the plastic for maximum weedlessness

When the fish bites down the hook will come out of the plastic

>>
>>766919
You just have to be sure the part of the lure with the hook is in the fishes mouth and get a good hookset. The hook tears through the plastic pretty easily.

I like these X-Raps a lot as far as cranks. Then Mepps Agila 3/4 with the brown skirt and gold/silver blade, Rapala Skitter Pop in brown frog.

Thos Zoom chartruese pepper lizards have been doin work. The curly tail worms in the same color were catching stuff over the weekend. I'm down with the "Sprayed Grass" Finesse Worms too.

Lots of it depends on weather and the lake so it's hard to pick only one or two. But those Mepps have caught more bass than anything else over my lifetime.
>>
Miami anon where u at?
>>
>>767117

It's actually easier than you would think to set the hook. When running the weedless rigged stuff like that, it is normally slowly along the bottom. So when you feel a bite, you let it sit for a second or two, and then set the hook. In that time, the fish will have grabbed the whole bait and the hook will slide right through.
>>
>>767187
For sure. I'm gonna head down that way in lil bit, just finishing up with this doc bullshit and then gotta run home and grab my stuff.

>>
>>767222
Checked

And topwater stuff is the same way. When I first started using poppers a lot, I would try and set the hook as soon as the fish jumped at it and I could never catch them. I quickly learned you have to let them drag it underwater for a second before setting it.

Idk which way you are coming from, but I took the Turnpike to Red Rd, then Red Rd to Miramar Pkwy, right on Miramar Pkwy and head East from there.

The first light will be "Enterprise Way" or some shit, then you will see the lake on your right hand side for a second and the next right is "Corportate Way". Turn onto that street and there a sign on the right saying something Graphix and I'm parked in there.

I'm gonna Google Maps some good lil lakes or canals around FIU for you to hit up when you get your rod set up. Hit them early in the morning or at sunset for an hour and see if any of them are good.

Anyone from or familiar with the Bemidji, MN area? I'm looking for some good places to do some shoreline fishing, mostly for panfish and bass.

I moved here a few years ago and I've only really fished a few times. But that was with someone with a boat that just up and sold the thing and has no interest in fishing anymore.

I remember bumping into someone that lives here once before.

>>
>>767443
It's all good. I was expecting to loose more lures than I did. I'll probably have to respool that Shimano reel after I get that knot out but whatever. I think that was just a result of the wind with a light lure and that 6lb braid which is super thin.

Yeah that's one good thing for me getting out there to Miramar in the afternoon. I can normally just take the Turnpike or Sawgrass and avoid I-95.

But my lil brother is at The U so I know all about that, especially 95 and the US-1 all the way down there, it blows.

>>767450
Nah like I said I think that was a result of the wind with that super light line and small lures, not from anything you were doing. Once you moved up to the bigger reel and medium weight rod, there wasn't any issue.

Next weekend we should hit up the Bass Pro at Dolphin Mall. I'm sure you will want a couple more little things after you get your rod set up. We can also harass your man into getting a combo too. bass Pro has some decent store brand setups for <$50. I also need to grab a couple Blue Foxes which they don't sell at the Dania Bass Pro.

My grandma gave me these a while ago, but I can't think of any use at all for them, except maybe throwing them in a BOB and using them for fishing or something. What should I do with them? They've been in my tackle box for a long time now.

It's no big deal really (atleast for me)

Last time I went out on a party boat I spent a good deal of time untangling my buddy's shit, or helping untangle everyone else's stuff that was near me

I don't mind it and keeping the less "skilled" (in lack of a better word)
Fishing makes me happy,
Plus I got to help a qt on the boat
Gave me an excuse to talk to her
Especially since the deckhands were busy with other people
>>
>>767453
It was kinda windy and I had a small Rooster Tail on that ultralight Ugly Stik and Sienna 500 with 6lb braid and I think that combination led to a couple knots. Once she was on the medium setup with a 3/8oz spinner on 15lb or 20lb braid, it was fine.

>tfw shitposting and totally missed my exit from the turnpike
The Turnpike doesn't have many exits since it's a toll road and now I'm so far away from where I was trying to get off.

For sure. He should at least grab a freshwater license for $17 though. If he does that, I'm down letting him use my stuff. I still have another couple rods at home in addition to the 6 I had today.

I have another baitcaster too for when the big bass are biting and you want to throw some big cranks or spinners.

>>
>>767478
That's straight. I actually mentioned Loxtahatchee when they were asking about the Everglades. I have pulled a few bass out of there but ir would be much better with a boat. We need to figure out where we can rent one for the morning.

And right after I got there, I thought I should've grabbed nightcrawlers. But I have never had great luck with live worms down here. Got a gar on them once but I do better with artificial bait when it comes to largemouth and the cichlids. Even the bluegill I haven't really gotten on live worms.

I posted my "Bass Essentials" lure deal early in this thread. All depends where you are and what the weather is like. Most days, you want to go late afternoon or early morning when they are feeding. Cast near any dropoffs, weeds, or structure where the bass will be coming in for a meal. Any minnow replica crankbait, spinner, or soft bait should work then.

If it is warmer and the bass are deep, cast past the drop off with some texas rigged plastic worms or whatever and run them along the bottom.

And then there's topwater for when the bass are feeding at the surface and you can see them jumping. Poppers or frogs maybe. I'm sure there's much more to it.

>>767647
Set aside 100 dollars for one of everything
At least 30 per target species
>>
Damn, as the sun was going down I was running a 3/8oz spinner (gold and white) and got a ton of good bites but no real sets. Lame.

>>767647
Build it up as you find out what works. Lure prices vary greatly by brand too. You can buy a diving crankbait for $20 from Lucky Craft, $10 from Rapala, or $3 for the Bass Pro brands.

The sky is the limit but if you really want to stock it up with one of everything plus some hooks for plastics, I'm thinkin $150-$200 if you shop smart you can get a couple sizes of the basics.

Canada Anon who bought that Quantum a month or two ago did a really good job getting set up for bass for around $150 (I think $40 or $50 was for the rod too). Wish I had his list.

Bullet sinkers 1/8 size
5/0 offset shank hooks

Creature baits, I'm partial to baby brush hogs, lizards, senko worms, and tubes
That will take care of your Texas rig needs
Get some 3/0 oct in line circle hooks if you wanna wacky rig a senko worm or something

Rapala floating minnow, a deep driving crank, a shallow crank, a regular spinner bait, an in line spinner, and a popper and a buzzbait

You'll be good and this won't set you back much

If you want to go real cheap just get some hooks and some sinkers and a bobber and some night crawlers

Well Cats are going to be different because they are bottom feeders and scavengers, but the rest you can probably get away with one setup. It will be similar to the pic.

>Inline Spinner (Rooster Tail, Mepps) - 1/4oz
>Regular Spinnerbait (Booyah, Strike King) - 1/4oz to 1/2oz
>Floating Crank Bait (Rapala Original or cheaper brand) - 3"-4"
>Diving Crankbait (Rapala DT, Strike King) - ~3"
>Rattling Lipless Crank (Rat-L-Trap, Strike King Red-Eye Shad) - 1/2oz
>1/4oz bullet weights and Size 3 EWG Worm Hooks
>Senko Style or Curly Tail Worms ~6"
>Soft Plastic Creature Baits (Crawdads, Lizzards, Brush Hogs)
>Paddle Tail or Split Tail Soft Plastic Minnows (Zoom Super Fluke Jr) - 3"-4"

That should cover most of it. Brands are going to determine pricing, bur you could probably get out for <$100 if you go store brand with a lot of stuff. Some store brand is good, some sucks. Bass Pro brand crankbaits don't seem to be bad (and will cost 1/3 of other brands), but their inline spinners are terrible.
>>
any of you ever use jitterbugs? I se praise for them but very little mention. it's like the forgotten classic for bass.
>>

Only thing is 1 jig will cost $4, while you can get 6 hooks and 8 bullet sinkers for $6.

Are you talking about jigheads? Because regular jigs are different. The ones with the brush guard things and a skirt.

Anyway jigheads are good for paddle tail flukes and swimming stuff, but hard to rig weedless. They do sell offset "shakey head" jigheads where you could still run weedless, but the VMC ones I got were like $6 or something for a 5pk. And even those seem to pick up more weeds than a Texas rig with bullet weights.

Okay here is your Wal-Mart special tackle box

I assume you have rods and reels so I won't touch on it

Get the blue rotary thing of gold Aberdeen hooks of various sizes
Get the splitshot kit thing it's in a Brown square box
Get the eagle claw bullet weight kit
Get a pack of 0.5 ounce 1 ounce 2 ounce and 3 ounce weighs either egg or bank
Get Some snap swivels
Get some #2 baitholder hooks
Get some 5/0 circle or octopus hooks
Get some 2/0 or 3/0 circle or octopus hooks
El cheapo pantyhose the cheapest there are
Get some frog's
I like the scum frog with the legs clipped 1/2 inch shorter
Get some wide gap 3/0 worm hooks hooks
Some various soft plastics
For catfish bait night crawlers work but here is my advice
Cut some pantyhose
Put a chicken liver in there
Hook it so the liver is trapped in the pantyhose
Cast
That's what the small octopus hooks are for
Alternatively you can hook on a chunk of bluegill or shad with the 5/0
The size 2 baitholder can also be used for walleye

Get some 1/32, 1/16, and 1/8 ounce pink or orange jigheads
Get some appropriately sized curly tails both white and green

Then lastly get some cranks
I recommend anything rapala
Just have fun with that part

heavier mono
+ Breaking strength
+abrasion resistance
+filling a big spool

-thickness (filling a small spool)
-cost ( sometimes thicker costs more )

Thinner Mono
+visibility
+thickness ( small spools)
+cost ( sometimes thinner costs less
-breaking strength

I normally use 8 lb mono for every day use, 12 for heavy shit and saltwater (sometimes 18)

Lighter mono will let you cast lures further. Also less visible and more flexible than heavier line. Always better going lighter if possible.

>>767741
I was looking at those bullet weight kits, and I don't think they're worth it for $10. An 8pk of 1/4oz were only 98¢ or something stupid cheap. I really wanted some 1/2oz weights too but wasn't worth getting the kit because 1/32oz bullets, and even 1/16oz are just too light for me to do anything with unless there is absolutely no wind.

Same with 1/32oz jigheads. Not a big fan of stuff under 1/8oz. I can do 1/16oz on the 6lb braid but 10lb doesn't cast them much at all.

Rapalas might be the one thing to save money on going to Bass Pro instead. Even Dick's. The cheaper brand cranks for $3 aren't bad at all, especially considering a similar Rapala will be $7-$10.

Never heard the pantyhose idea.
>>
>>767753
the ony reason i use 8 is because years ago i managed to buy a 1000 yard spool for cheap as fuck, also pic incoming

6lb mono is great for general freshwater pond and lake fishing as long as you are careful.

4lb is fun for panfish and lakes with lots of <2lb bass. 8lb or 10lb is good if you want to get the occaisional carp or channel cat and snag weeds a lot, but casting <1/8oz lures for panfish will be a bitch. 6lb and you can get away with any bass, panfish, even channel cats as long as you don't snag a bunch of shit. Above 8lb mono and it starts to become a pain for a lot of freshwater lures and I would rather just do 10lb-20lb braid.

Blue eye master race reporting in. Although I like green eyes on women folk the best.

Skid, you're just too young for me. I know you like older men, but I'm not down with kids (or men tbqhwy).

I think that reel that got tangled may have had a little too much line on it after getting those knots out. I always overfill Shimano reels because of that bevel on the spool.

I should bring my lil bro for you if you ever get bored of your man. He's a taller, better looking version of me. Jk, but he may come along one time. He's got his whole line of qt's at The U, not sure which ones he's doing what with.

I never heard about green for the AM. I wonder if they mean bright green like chartruese. I have heard black for night or really murky water.

Wouldn't expect anything less from 4chan.

I was actually kinda clean shaven today. Shaved yesterday. I grow that shit out over the course of like a week though because I'm too lazy to shave at 4:30am.

You should've seen his face when I showed him the post. It was priceless.

Q: when to use hardbaits/cranks vs when to use softs?
I'm not sure what's the occasion, I guess it's the style you're feeling.

softb8 always Crankbait when fucking around and feeling bad you never use them
>>
>>767805

Wish I could tell you, I never have luck with hardbaits other than rapala floaters. Always end up catching fish on soft plastics and having to buy more, it seems.
>>
>>767810

Top water crankbaits are great though.
>>
>>767805
Hard bait when you want to cover water soft bait when the fish don't want to move
>>
