Dude at Bass Pro at Dolphin Mall was telling me about good bass in Florida City canals. That would be fun, but you have to find the right spots in the canals otherwise they suck. I have better luck in little lakes. The canals are hard to fish unless you can find some good structure where it isn't overfished.

Bass normally start feeding a bit more at dawn and dusk. And for some reason, I have better luck at dusk. Some days I will do OK from 6am-7am but most of my real nice bass have been like 30min before sunset.
Weather and pressure matters too. Sometimes I will kill it at noon if the atmospheric pressure is doin some shit. Still haven't quite figured it out.
Also, being FL, the wind off the ocean is a bit more calm at dawn and dusk which is nice.

IME it depends on fish species, what the body of water has for it to eat, and the time of year.
Bass can feed any time due to decent night vision and lateral lines, one of the best I've caught was speed trolling a giant plug at 2AM. But lakes with strong baitfish species usually are the ones that have morning/evening periods with intense bursts of feeding. Unlike bass baitfish can't really see chit in the dark, so lowlight makes them easier to hunt. Mornings/evenings especially because they're still congregated in small areas near their overnight hideouts in cover. In daylight they spread all over eating insects or roaming in groups after zooplankton and bass won't bother.
For a few weeks in early spring and late fall bass will binge feed all day and will follow baitfish in groups somewhat.
The morning/evening effect might not happen at all if there aren't healthy baitfish populations. It might revolve around insects in the day or terrestrials like frogs, mice, snakes.

I've had great luck on the outgoing tide about an hour before complete low and late in the day, after 6PM.
Nothing remotely keeper yet.
Ultimate best bet, outgoing just as dawn breaks and be near the mouth of something, river, estuary, tidal marsh.

I have a fierce 3000 and battle 2 6000. As far as i can tell, the only difference is the drag, and sealed vs shielded bearings. They are both great reels though. The battle is only like 20 bucks more than the fierce if you want those features. Idk if they make a live liner version though.

They love spinners, texas rigged senkos, and some topwater even.
I like rolling a spinnerbait near the top of the water, and then stopping, letting it sink and starting back up. Ive seen several emerge from the depths and hit a falling spinnerbait like that a few times right in front of me.

Nah, it's all urban pretty much. I can go 20min west and be at the edge of the Everglades but it's hard to fish from shore. But there are tons of canals and lakes and most of the lakes are in little industrial and commercial areas. Lots of it has to do with water management when it rains hard I think.

Flouro works well and gets more bites but wire works better for preventing bite offs

Depends. Personally I don't use sandals without socks on anything except rocky riverbeds because the water is too fast for critters to attach to my legs and there are no pebbles to get under my feet. With neoprene socks I use them in sand and fine grit as well.

Owner brand half moon micro hook is basically essential. there are websites you can buy those from. For species in the three inch and above range I crimp a split shot smaller than a rice grain directly above the hook so that the strike registers on my float instantly and they don't swallow the whole hook. For really hook shy species and micros under 3" I tie a carolina rig with a rice-grain sized sliding sinker (make these by getting a little piece of lead, squeezing it into shape with pliers, and pressing a hole through with a needle. If depth or current force me to switch from micro weights to bigger weights I will use a dropshot or dropper loop rig so that the strike of a small fish registers directly into my line. Floats are carved from a piece of styrofoam with a lengthwise slit in them. They stay on the line by themselves if they are small enough. Catching shiners is a blast, if you downsize your gear enough (even little fly hooks will work), you'll get almost constant action.

That would work. The line is 4lb mono, the leader came pre-tied with the hooks and it's 2lb I think. The rod is a solid strip of bamboo wood that has been carved and sanded into shape and then fire hardened to give more stiffness and sensitivity.

Northern Pike season opens Saturday so thats something to look forward to. Boats also in the water to start tolling Lake Erie for Walleye and Rainbows.

I use a spinning reel and the braid always sticks to itself or digs into itself until you cast it a few times, and this makes the first 10 casts hell because there is a knot on every single cast.

Is it worth fishing in the afternoon? I'm fishing crappie and bass out of local stocked lakes. I know fish start biting in the evening too, but what time exactly? Like an hour before sunset? I work a late shift job so I'm usually sleeping during the early morning hours

Fish will bite at any time of day depending on the weather. The pressure seems to have quite a bit to do with it. But on a typical day it seems like the bass really start going around an hour or two before it is dark.

Sun dictates lure choice sometimes. You don't have to go quite as bright and flashy. I don't like to do flashy silver stuff with clear water and sun.
Go out and give it a shot. Sounds like the weather is perfect for being outside, even if the fish aren't biting you can still enjoy the sun. Hang out for a bit. My one lake, I have been there so many times in the afternoon where nothing is biting, and right on the clock 30min before sunset the bass start going crazy.

Walmarts around here have a shitty selection though since a lot of it is saltwater. I might still take a drive to Dick's, I can't remember if the one nearby has those lizards. This lake I'm at now has a bunch of snakeheads but it's so hard to catch them before scaring them away. I think I'm gonna run a lizard with no weight and drag it over some thick weeds.
