How I fish for bass and always catch one
1. Hook with bait and bobber
2. Catch fish while waiting only 10 minutes
Easiest thing instead of constantly casting for hours and getting nothing.

to the non last thread interested in the bristol built from the very end of last thread,
everything seems to be straight with it, its been kept in an old ass rod sock and tube ( not sure if originalbut its certainly old, there is some stub underneath where the reel seat used to be ( see pic related its the one in the middle ) im not sure if thats how long its supposed to be, but it was that short when i cleaned off what was left of the original totally trashed reel seat, i can take more pictures later today, as i said its in pretty decent shape other then the one eyelet ( i actually broke myself accidentally) and the reel seat being gone, also the hook keeper appears to be gone as well,
it has a spare tip even
>>
>>754125
What's your price on the lot since you don't like my offers?
The lot only being the rods btw
>>
>>754122
Idk, I don't think I've had a day with absolutely nothing in a long time. And I don't have shit for luck with bass and nightcrawlers.

Fishing with lures is fun in its own way. A different challenge.

Just the regular "J" shaped ones with a straight shank. I don't even know the proper name.

If you're using nightcrawlers, the baitholder hooks are nice. They have a couple lil barbs on the shank to keep the worm on.
>>
>>754291
I like circle hooks, they snag the fishies more easily
>>
so a few of the treble hooks on my shadow raps are quite bit out of shape. They are size 6 vmc treble hook.

I'm thinking about switching to single hook on the lure since that would increase the hook strength (larger diameter). What is the best way to do it to minimize messing with the lure action. Which hook model and size should I use. Should I just put octopus hook onto the split ring or should I get siwash hook and connect them directly onto the lure.

wacky rig senko worm on a circle hook

try it

it will catch you bass
>>
>>754313
I was wondering what the purpose of those hooks was. I know Yuro loves em.
>>
>>754339
you wait for the fish to pull in the opposite direction and then just tighten the line, the fish hooks itself, theyre nice for if youre just soaking baits with multiple rods, and fish will hook themselves
>>
>>754317
It shouldn't fuck with it at all, right? Definitely use the rings though so the hooks can twist a bit and actually snag the fish.

Some of Yuro's XXX Raps actually run single hooks.

I'm on the verge of replacing the treble hooks on a few inline spinners. That way I can actually run them within 50' of some weeds or grass and possible run a trailer on em.

the did start leaking eventually ( though usualy at the boot line) so not sure how the stockingfoot will be but they also did somewhat well in cold water with long underwear on

Idk i was fishing in the rain today and yesterday see>>754381

Depends where you are. some places i get the feeling fish wont eat if the water is muddy, i think maybe it has to do with the barometric pressure

Right before the rain is GOAT sometimes. I still catch stuff in the rain, but I feel like the rain can draw attention away from certain baits that rely on vibration and noise.

>>
>>754344
that seems to be only avaliable for magnum x rap, which is a bit big for what I am looking for. $20 is pretty expensive for a rap as well.

for some reason, manufacturers tend to only have single hook versions on bigger lures. Smaller lures suffer so much more because they come with tiny trebles that can break or bend more easily. It makes so much more sense to have a lot of single hook small lure avaliable so you have less chance of breaking the hook or gut hooking if you have a big fish on a small lure ( which happens more often than the other way around).

I have difficult finding the single hook versions of smaller in-line spinners and kastmaster compared to bigger versions
>>
>>754628
Wal-Mart? I can get you hooked up right proper at Wal-Mart
First buy a 6'6" uglystik spinning rod
Then a 2500 size spinning reel to go with it
Next you'll need some 15-20 pound power pro
You'll want to get the mini spools of Berkley trilene in 4, 6, 10, and 15 pound line
Spool with the power pro
Use mono for leaders
Now buy a pack of the shitty red and white bobbers
Some small
Some big
Then buy the following hooks
#2 baitholder
#2 octopus
4/0 octopus
1/8 ounce plain lead jigheads
1/32 ounce pink jigheads
4/0 wide gap hooks
Then the blue rotary container of Aberdeen hooks
Then get the eagle claw kit of bullet sinkers
Go over to the soft plastics
Zoom flukes, pearl white
Senko worms
Some lizzards
Some tubes
Some gulp 1" minnows in the smelt colour
Also 4 inch chigger craws
Now get some rapalas
Get a small medium and large rapala original
Go get a popper or two
Lastly buy some swivels and that beige pack of splitshot
That will set you up for everything from bluegill and crappie to trout to bass and catfish, even light saltwater.

Damn, that's a lot of stuff.

I mean the pic I posted earlier covers most of the freshwater stuff. Just make sure to get the right sizes for what you are catching. Only thing I want to add to that pic is some worm hooks, jig heads, and bullet weights (stuff to rig the soft plastics).

Skid's list is pretty good. For bluegill, sunfish, and crappie, small Rapalas, 1/8oz Mepps and Rooster Tails, Beetle Spins, and just jigheads with some 2" PowerBait grubs will do work.

Same stuff for bass, but you can start working larger lures and get into the soft plastics like worms and crawdads on Texas rigs. Spinnerbaits are good for spring and fall, poppers at dawn and dusk when they are feeding on top, weedless frogs for thick patches.

If you are really new, it is always good to start with nightcrawlers or even minnows on a hook, split shot, and bobber, and find the good fishing spots. Once you see what you are catching, grab some lures that you think those fish will go for.

Bullhead, channel cats, and carp are fun to catch too but a little different.

Bullhead like nightcrawlers and dead minnows. Channel cats like nightcrawlers too (on the bottom) or you could do a small dead bluegill (or half), chicken livers, or commercial stink baits.

For carp, I have always had the best luck with either a treble hook with a ball of white bread or a regular hook with a bunch of sweet corn kernels on it.

Pretty much everything besides those on your list will go for anything that imitates smaller fish or other live prey. Although channel cats, bullhead, and the rare carp could possibly hit a lure, but it doesn't happen often.

But if any pic really shows it's a bullseye snakehead, that's the one. I can understand how a random person could get confused if they hadn't seen a snakehead, but you will never get those black and white spots on anything but a bullseye snakehead. Plus the shape of the head is a dead giveaway.

Yes. The Asians get a discount because they buy a lot and cook them so the beauty of type of snakehead doesn't matter.
>>
>>754694
That's how most of the invaisive fish get into the wild. The snakeheads came from a breeder. I'm sure all of the South American cichlids and plecos came that way too.

In the southern US, you can't buy Pirahnas as pets because of people releasing them into the wild. They sold em everywhere in IL since they would never make it through the winter.

Yup, and the "skunk ape" aka the actual apes living wild in Florida. I think a lot of it stems from hurricanes breaking open enclosures and stuff. Supposedly the Bullseye snakeheads were released with Hurricane Andrew.

I still want to find a way to get those sailfin cats (plecostomus). Those fuckers invaded so many bodies of water but don't bite lures.

Damn, what will I do with them all? With one of those, I could seriously get a couple dozen within an hour at the right lake on the right day.

Somewhat related, I was at the lake where I got that big snakehead a week or two ago and its head was sitting in te grass. I forgot how big that fucker was. The head was the size of a decent bluegill.

I've heard of people eating them but personally I'd say just put them in a dumpster behind McDonald's so it doesn't stink up your trash

up here, its the raccoons/owls/hawks/garbage birds that eat any fish I damage. typically what I do, is use my knife to stab them in the brain. then I take them find an oak tree that's branches hang low to the ground, and stab a branch through the center of the fish, and the fish dangles just above the ground. next day the fish will be gone... lol its kinda cool. normally with panfish if they deep throat the bait, I just kill them because pulling my hook out damages the stomach too much. would be a slower more cruel death tossing them into the water again.

Here's one for some combos. I wanted to put the text into the pic, but when I tried to do it on muh iPhone, it made each pic like 2kb. I don't understand MSPaint. Word seems like the easiest but idk how to turn all of that into a pic.

Let's see how low quality these pics are.

>Combos Under $100
Top to bottom, left to right.
1) Abu Garcia Ike 2- $39
2) Quantum Bill Dance- $39
3) Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2- $49
4) Pflueger Trion- $59
5) Bass Pro Tourney Pro- $59
6) Lew's Laser Speed Spool- $59
7) Abu Garcia Cardinal SX- $69
8) Daiwa Revros- $69
9) Mitchell 300- $69
10) Pflueger President- $79
11) Shimano Sedona/Sellus- $89
12) Mitchell 300 Pro- $89
13) Abu Garcia Orra S- $99

Where's ugly stik?
>>
>>754834
Bottom left
>>
>>754834
I still maintain that when buying one of these combos, you get soooo much more if you're willing to spend $70 instead of $40-$50. For $50, you normally get a crappy rod and decent reel or in the case of the Ugly Stik, a decent rod but the reel is kinda shitty. For $20 more, you end up with a nice aluminum or graphite reel (all metal at least) and a rod that has real action.

I do really want one of those Shimano Sellus/Sedona combos. I think one Dick's near me has a couple in stock still.
>>
>>754827

>>
>>754836
I recently got back into fishing and have a ugly stik and really want something better. I use to catch monster catch fish 60+lbs my dad sold all his shark fishing gear
>>
>>754705
Frozen peas or lightly boiled zucchini will work. Give it a try I want to see you catch one of those.
>>
>>754837
I was waiting for that.

What else would you add? I was mostly trying to find stuff that you can get at a lot of different retailers which can be an issue sometimes between store brands and even store exclusive stuff. I think there is probably another Lew's or two that could be on there, but Cabela's seems to have some new models while other retailers still have old ones.

There isn't shit for Shimano combos either which sucks. But a reel list will def have a few Shimano reels for <$100. And almost everywhere seems to have Abu, Pflueger, and Mitchell combos so I put those on. There was another Quantum for ~$90 I was going to put on there but I'm not sure if I can reccommend a mid-range Quantum and still sleep well at night after seeing the Accurist reviews.

>>754839
The rods aren't bad. Not super sensitive. But if you have one of those $50 combos, the reels aren't too good. Drop $30-$50 on a new reel and you will be set.

I have been stoked on that Fenwick Eagle too for $60. Still thinking about a Sellus too for like $50-$60. I like the reel seat on those but they all seem to be like xtra fast action.
>>
>>754837

>>
What's with the hard on for Ugly Stiks?

Is it just that they're available literally everywhere and cheap?
>>
>>754911

They are extremely durable for that price. Ugly stik fans can always jerk off over how much they can bend the rod without it breaking or how they can drop it or drop things onto it and it will still work. It's great for throwing bait out there and wait for fish to bite. Of course, abusing your rod heavily would ruin the guides before the blank anyway. That doesn't matter much because you won't notice if your guides are messed up since ugly sticks aren't a really sensitive rod. Sensitivity doesn't matter much if you aren't using a lot of lures or and only do fishing inshore with baits though
>>
>>754929
>you won't notice if your guides are messed up since ugly sticks aren't a really sensitive rod

But your line will fray and wear out faster. Also, shorter casts. Those are the real reasons to protect your guides imo.

Test it out. Tie one end to a door knob and pull until it snaps. If it snaps easy then it's bad. If it's been in any sunlight it's probably bad. I used some 10 year old line that was stored in a basement.

K so, would this be a gud idea?

This is the river mouth. Grey is the most fished spot and the area they cover from the bank. Red is the second most fished spot and the area they cover.
Now the parts i circled in aqua color, are very shallow, and you need to walk a long way to get waist deep.
Would it be a good idea to buy a wader and wade in those areas to cover the more open bit of sea outside the river mouth, and the part on the lower right?
I havent seen anyone do this as of yet.

>>

Depends what you are goin for. Almost any panfish will take nightcrawlers. Catfish too. I would just go out there with whatever bait, see what fish are in the lakes and rivers, then do more research on baits and lures.
>>
>>755159
I do that anyway waiting for them to throw out food
>>
>>755194

Also nightcrawlers stay on the hooks well vs trying to use spiders or something. Wax worms are really good for bluegill and crappie. And minnows for bass, walleye, pike. Minnows and shiners will get you some nice fish in the right body of water.

OFFICIAL KVD™ TACKLE REVIEW
>Bass Pro XPS LazerEye Inline Spinner
Garbage. Buy a Mepps instead. Even Rooster Tails are better, and I think they may be cheaper as well since these BPS inlines with the eyes are the more expensive ones.

Sometimes with cheap inlines, the blades will stop spinning on the retrieve and normally to fix it you just give it a couple good rips and the blade starts to spin again.

But with these lures, the blade only spins ~40% of the retrieve. It gets stuck under the lure and just makes the whole thing run really shallow and wobble around. Tried a faster retrieve, does the same thing. Slower retrieve, same deal.
