#17- "Longest Title Ever: Not Enough Time To Fish Because Mommy Had A Hip Replacement And It's Like Taking Care Of A Newborn" Edition

I'm gonna try and get out tomorrow morning. Just afraid to go very far away in case something happens. Suprisingly she seems to be in less pain with this hip surgery than she was when she originally broke her femur and they put a bunch of screws in it.

How many of you actually gotten freefityfree tackle from walmart? Ive stuffed like lead weights and shit or hook packs inside larger rubber worm packs. Or doubled up on hooks/sinkers by putting one bag into another. I always think about how easy it would be to walk out the door with a pole without being questioned. Cause the pole wouldnt fit in the bag.. But i never went this far because I cant afford getting perma banned from all the walmarts in my state over 50 dollar rod.

Ta-Da, the new Tatula CT! Daiwa basically slimmed the sideplates and lowered the reel to make it feel more compact. It does feel smaller in hand than the original tatula.

I thought about that before. The 2 for 1 Power Bait or weights by dumping a second bag into the first. Unfortunately I'm not that hard-up for $4.

I have talked to the junkie dude a couple times who was telling me he could get me stuff for cheap but he hasn't brought up the whole retail theft idea since that one time so that probably won't happen.

>>716939
Decent. Still would be down with a Daiwa if I decide to get another memecaster one day. Well I bought another baitcaster on Wednesday but I think I'm gonna hook Skid up with it.

>>
>>716943
Is t-wing a meme? It looks promising.
>>
>>716945
That's crazy looking. Is it supposed to help with backlashes? Seems like it could keep the line from nesting so much behind it but at the same time it still keeps it spooled properly when reeling.
>>
>>716948
Yeah so far it's pretty dope. I did some pitching and flipping in my backyard and it's crazy how smooth casting feels. I wouldn't say that it casts farther-but it's easier. When I was adjusting spool tension and my lure was dropping and hit the floor, I noticed that the line that came off the reel at the end bunched up and then shot out.

It looks like this little bolt in the handle is threaded, but I don't want to try and get it out and fuck the thing up. I'd like to see if there are any markings under the handle.

All I know is this sword and an Arisaka (right?) came back from there during WWII. There is a cool old Japanese flag somewhere too. I don't think the rifle is worth much, but it would be fun to shoot. My old neighbor who is into guns says it would def shoot fine but ammo is hard to find.

What fishing related purchase do you regret the most?

>shimano waxwing
>thought getting a subsurface "walk the dog" action with out working the rod tip would be great since working gotcha plugs can wear you out
>the lure sometimes flips over in the water and just skids along the surface if it gets knocked by a current or any form a debris
>can't be used from piers or bridges unlike gotcha plugs
>has been hit by four blues, only caught one since it attacked it from the back
>costs 18 fucking dollars at its cheapest
>now I just display it since it works better as a decoration than a lure
>>

How hard is it to learn to use a non level wind conventional reel? It seems kind of difficult to keep the line from building up in one spot with your thumb when fighting a fish.
>>
>>717067
I once spooled a reel with Berkley Vanish Flourocarbon and it was a total waste of money. I tore that shit off after a couple days. I will never spool a reel with full flouro again.

I also spooled a few reels with braid that was unnecessarily heavy. Reels that say "12lb mono- 150yds" so I thought it was a good idea to spool it with 40lb braid because it is the same diameter. Ended up going lighter right afterwards since everything is so much easier with lighter line and going with equal diameter braid is overkill most of the time. So the baitcasters that would normally run 12-14lb mono are running 20-30lb braid and cast way better than they would with 12lb mono.

Also the Shimano Sienna 500, really wish I woulda gotten that in a 1000 size. Even with 6lb braid on a 5'6" rod for ultralight stuff, the 500 just feels so small.
>>
>>717072
its not that hard. grip the front of the rod with just the fingers of your left hand, and do the level winding with your thumb
it takes some getting used to and its easier to learn on smaller reels then apply it up, but over all its not that bad. and if it does mound up in one spot, just fill the space around it so its "level" again
its like a manual transmission vs an automatic
the manual isnt that hard once you learn it, youve just got a few more things going on
>>
>>717075
>shimano sienna

I am one more bail trip away from returning my 2500. Every few casts in just slams down. I tried tightening the side screws to see if it will help and I'll find out if it did tomorrow.
>>
>>717084
Damn, I don't think that has ever been a problem with mine.
>>
>>717084

You can take it apart and remove the automatic bail trip. You'll have to flip it by hand (the right way) but it might stop tripping accidentally.
>>
>>717094

You can also wrap a heavy duty rubber band around the rod and over the bail while it's open to stop it from closing.
>>
>>717094
>>717095
That kinda sucks tho, the reel shouldn't have that issue in the first place.
>>
>>717084
You could also go bailless if you want.
>>
>>717100
I bought it a few days ago so I might just return it. I wanted to get a sahara 2500 but it's too small for my reel's seat.
>>
>>717067

I really like my waxwing, but I toss them next to debris out in the open ocean to get mahimahi.

You can also remove the bail wire entirely.

So tonight I took apart a cheap okuma trolling reel (Magda pro) to clean and oil and such. I have no fucking idea how to put it back together...lol. This should be interesting.
>>
>>717108
DON'T buy a new Sahara. I used a Sahara 2500FD for years and loved it so last year I thought I'd buy a 2500FE. Absolute piece of shit. Wrecked two bearings, had the frame crack under light pressure, the seals do absolutely nothing and for some reason Shimano is still using materials other than carbontex for drag washers. The Sahara rods are terrible too, the guides are cheap and prone to corrosion and they're stiff but not strong.

On the other hand, I've been using a Sienna 1000FD for years and never had any issues, so maybe I just got a dodgy Sahara and maybe you just got a dodgy Sienna.

How much of that are you trying to spend on a rod? I've been seeing a lot of nide combos for right around $100. Abu Orra 2, Pfleuger President, Pflueger Nighthawk/HMX, Shimano Sedona/Sellus from Dick's, look in the last thread.

If you want to spend closer to $150, there are some real nice spinning combos. I would totally grab a Johnny Morris CarbonLite combo for that money. All the Johnny Morris rods and reels are Bass Pro's serious setups and you get a lot for the money.

Just remember it will be really easy to spend that all on tackle. I can post a pic of what I would do for a starter bass kit in a bit.

>Soft Baits
Worms, paddle tail flukes, curly tail grubs, crawdad/hawg for trailers on jigs or Texas rigs, Storm minnows.
>Cranks
Diving crank, suspending and floating Rapala types, sinking rattler.
>Spinners
Inline and traditional, darker natural colors and bright colors
>Topwater
Weedless frogs, poppers, also worth adding other loud things like Jitterbugs, buzz baits, torpedo and prop baits.

You ride that motorcycle too. You should really try and get somewhere warmer.

I was thinkin about that reel, if you get it, I'm gonna send you the reciept as well. I think I paid cash for it, so that way if for some reason you hate it, you can bring it to any Dick's and at least get $20 towards a Black Max. But I think that W&M reel will be much nicer than anything you can find in the $50 range.

You order anything online? Although I'm not a big fan of ordering lures online because $10 shipping on 3 or 4 lures I want is annoying. Only time I did it was when I wanted some Mepps colors that are hard to find in stores. You don't have any big sporting goods stores with a decent fishing section? Or at least an old school bait shop? I had a great bait shop by my house in IL but the ones down here don't have the best tackle selection. Those are dying off these days.

What do you guys think about that bass lure kit I posted this morning? Pretty much covers everything or did I leave anything important out? I lnow a few people might add spoons to that.
>>
>>717421
They're so damn similar, you can't go wrong either way. Just make sure you use the $10 off code. "GET499" for MTB and I can't remember the LTB one.

I've been doing MTB but I kinda want to take advantage of that LTB code and at least get a month for $5 or the good one for $15 after the discounr. I also gotta upgrade my MTB for next month before it is too late like last month, i think the extra $10 is worth it. You end up getting 2 nice big baits instead of 1, the random hooks will be a 5-6 pack instead of 2, and the soft plastics will be a full bag of 10-15 instead of 4-5. The extra crankbait alone is worth the $10 upgrade.
>>
>>717425
I think I might do both. As it is now I've been spending at least $100 on lures every month. Worst case if I don't like one I can cancel the subscription.
>>
>>717427
I did both, LTB for inshore and MTB trout box. 2 months in I'm happy. Also there is a ton of unboxing vids out there. Watch a few for an idea what each place is putting in.
>>
>>717427
Yeah it is a nice little suprise every month. And if you use the discount code, you can get 3 months for $33. That's like buying 2 crank baits and a pack of plastic worms. Plus they have bass, catfish, panfish, inshore, trout I think, icefishing,, etc. I like the bass box though. Inshore looked decent as well if that's what you fish. I was thinking about the panfish box but probably wouldn't do it after seeing it. And def not catfish. Both of those (epsecially catfish) seem to have a lot of terminal tackle and I already have plenty of hooks, weights, and bobbers.

It is def an inexpensive way to overflow your tackle box with a bunch of shit you don't need.
>>
>>717427
>>717436
You can also change box type from month to month. Bass for a month, then trout, then inshore.
>>
>>717436

I pretty much just fish for bass and panfish since catfish don't seem to like lures too much. I might do one of them for panfish for a couple months to stock up on bobbers and some terminal tackle then switch it over to bass
>>
>>717419
I do, when i cant find it around here. I always prefer going to a store and picking up a lure, because you get to see it in proper perspective. I would have never known the Skitter Pop is so meaty in the 12cm / 40gr version had i not seen it in person.

The selection is usually mediocre, and the one small shop around here i really dont like because of how in your face the guy is. Its a really small store so i dont really get it but whatever. Plus he just moves shit, doesnt give a shit if its saltwater or freshwater.
The other day he was telling me how he got some fluorocarbon thats stronger than mono at same diameter, and asking if i heard about fluoro, shilling it hard. I kinda hate that.

This canal feeds into this lake I'm fishing in a little commercial park. I really want to walk down the canal a but but it's a bunch of rich people houses and I feel like it's just asking for trouble.

>>717445
That sucks. The one tackle shop I used to go to when I lived up north was great. Dude who owns it is a lil goofy but will give you his honest opinion on everything. They carried a lot of product too for a small place.
>>
>>717464
Depends what you are catching and where you are fishing. If you are getting lots of panfish and small to medium bass, you could do 10lb and you will be able to spool lots of line on the reel and it will cast great. I like 15lb since I can toss 1/8oz to 1/2oz+ lures and still rip through some weeds. But even 20lb would be fine although it won't be the greatest for casting stuff under 1/4oz. I will still toss Mepps 2 (1/6oz) on 20lb braid but 15lb is much better for that. If you gotta rip through lots of weeds and are targeting bigger bass, 20lb is good.

Pic related is just pond panfish and bass fishing stuff. From left to right, I'm running 10lb, 15lb, 20lb and 20lb.

The Abu SX30 and the baitcaster could both easily do 30lb or even 40lb, but 20lb casts 1/4oz lures so much better and is still strong enough to rip through weeds.

unless anyone can find me a different nice spinning reel for under 60$ on cabellas website, ideal price range is under 40

What are you using the reel for? Bass? Saltwater?
>>
>>717496
both fresh and salt, mostly fresh anything from panfish, trout, bass, pickerel, northern pike, to ocean fishing for(Ismaller) bluefish etc looking for a 2500 size to match with my 7 ft medium rod most fishing will be panfish, and bass
>>
>>717486
Not a bad idea. Daiwa isn't bad either.

>>717487
>yfw Penn and Pflueger are owned by the same company and made in the same factories
Pflueger isn't a bad company at all.
>>
>>717502
ive been looking at diawas, i could get a laguna, for cheap (30) or a revros for $50 but theyre sold out a legalis for $60 but thats a bit out of m range, for price, i have a 70 something dollar giftcard to use there and want to be able tp pick up some lures and shit aswell
>>
>>717492
Pflueger makes some nice affordable combos. There was some Ausfag a couple months ago saying his friends and he run Pflueger Trion combos and love them. Plus lots of them come with Fenwick rods which are nice.

It's all Pure Fishing anyway so anon who was saying Pflueger are shit but get a Penn is just shitposting.

>>717495
If you look at the past couple threads, I have posted a handful of good sales on combos that I have seen online. But you really can't go wrong with the Daiwa. If you can find a nice price on an Abu Garcia Cardinal SX or STX, those are good too and they come with decent rods. I think the SX combo is normally $70-$80 and the STX is $80-$90 but if you look around you could probably find a sale on them closer to $60
>>
>>717503
You also might be able to find something decent on sale from Bass Pro, Gander Mtn, or Dick's and if Cabela's carries the same combo, make them price match it.
>>
>>717507
im strictly looking at Cabellas because giftcard there and only like $13 cash to my name
>>
>>717503
Cabela's has that Pflueger Summit online that doesn't look bad for $60 on sale. Or that Lew's Lazer for $60 (off of $90). That Lew's setup is pretty damn nice. But that might be a lil more than you want to spend.

Honestly, if you are only trying to spend <$50 on a combo, make sure you get something on clearance or sale. Wait around if you have to. Most combos with a regular retail <$50 will either have a decent rod with a shitty reel (like the Ugly Stiks) or they will have a decent reel on a $10 rod. If you can get something that normally retails for $70 or $80, it will be so much better. You will end up getting a $50 or $60 reel on a $40 or $50 rod.
>>
>>717513
im just looking for a reel, i have 2 rods ( almost identical ) both 7 foot both medium action that i need new reels for,
>>
>>717510
Still saying if you see something at another retailer on sale and Cabela's carries the exact same thing, you might be able to call in the order and make them price match it. Or if you go into the store, they will def price match competitors.
>>
>>717516
yeyeye, i didnt realize they did that, i think i may get 2 lagunas for $30 each and put one on each of my rods, tghen spool one with 15 lb braid or 10 lb and the other with lb mono
>>
>>717515
Oh damn, that changes a lot. I would grab that Purist for sure. I was just looking at it online. That reel is way nicer than the Daiwa.

Still think about what I said with price matching
>>
>>717518
im somewhat offput by the 6 reviews that all say the inside self destructs after a year to 18 months, i need something that i wil abuse and will keep going
>>
>>717473
What rod is second from the left and the one on far right?
>>
>>717520
I would grab a Shimano Sienna over the Laguna probably. They are the best reels in that $30-$40 price range.

>>717523
The black and red, 2nd from the left is an Abu Vendetta. Far right, the baitcaster, is a Bass Pro Johnny Morris CarbonLite. I got a good deal on that one. $80 and they normally retail for $120 or $130.

No problem mang. If you want to know names, brands, sizes or anything just let me know.

>>717533
>>717536
You will be fine as long as there isn't a bunch of shit suspended in it.

>>717541
Depends. Sometimes I run a flouro leader. Especially because that one rod had red 15lb Power Pro on it, I normally keep a leader on that if I am running smaller baits. I don't think it makes a huge difference in 90% of situations. Most of my reels have that moss green line and 10lb-20lb braid is so thin that it is hard to see even in fairly clear water.

>>717520
>>717527
I was thinkin about that more, and def grab the Shimano Sienna if you are tryin to keep it cheaper. Mainebub would agree with that. He had a Sienna as one of his main reels and they only run like $30.

I only bought my Sienna after reading a bunch of articles (from magazines and shit, not reviews on some Taiwanese Knitting Forum or Cabela's website) where they compared a bunch of spinning reels under $50 and everybody seemed to agree that the Sienna is the best budget reel. I like Abu Garcia, so if you were going with a cheaper combo I would say to go with a Cardinal. But if you are looking for just a reel for <$40, Sienna is the way to go over any Cardinals or Lagunas or anything else like that.
>>
>>717550
For the CarbonLite? I think they are more of a bass fishing rod. Bass Pro store brand rods seem to be decent for the price though. I think I have 3 different BPS rods in all different price ranges and I have never had an issue.

Check out those Berkley Lightning Rods and Lighting Rod Shocks too. I have been really liking my Shock for a $40 rod. Not sure how big they go, mine is only 6'.
>>
>>717555
The Abu Vendetta.
I dont do rods under 8'10" Cant cast nearly as far with a shortass rod.
I understand them for lakes and smaller bodies of water or finesse fishing.
Sea isnt really that.

>Mainebub still missing?
>>
>>717562
Idk where he has been.

And if I tried to fish my lakes with a 9' rod, I would be breaking them so fast from hitting trees and bushes and stuff. I have a few spots where I have to cast left handed because of trees right on the shoreline.

Shit is sweet as fuck to cast, first chucking an 8oz sinker and then watching it fly for fucking miles.

>Pic related is my biggest gilthead bream. only about 1.7lbs

Lads. I've got some fairly small, lightweight rods and reels I was given by a friend (whose dad had died). I think he used them for coarse. Provided I put strong enough line on the reels, do you think they'd be OK for fishing off a pier in the sea? Aiming to try catch some plaice, flounder, maybe some bass. I figure if they're strong enough for him to land some sizeable carp they'll be able to handle a feisty bass provided the tackle on the line is solid right? I've never really done sea fishing before, but since I live in Portsmouth these days I figure I may as well give it a try.

ill see if i cant find a diagram to describe the process
>>
>>717622
Im interested in that, do show.
Yeah, this is its main use for now, but i would look to target some bigger predators with my big 100g jig.
If i saw that its worth it to fuck around with it this way, id invest in more jigs, and possibly another surf rod. But i dont see anyone else doing that around here. Maybe because its expensive gear, and the people here are cheap.

I mean i know that extra distance on cast is always good, but im not sure if its worth to throw such a big jig out there if there is no big takers. But then again the deeper sea out there cant be empty.

Hopefully i find some amberjacks and the likes as the sea warms up and goes into fall.

Thanks dude, appreciate your time.. Ok, I've got 2 rods. One says the following:

'3.60m/3SEC ACTION: B 5-20G'

the other says the following:

'Zensorflex - Match 12' Medium' - much less useful, but this one might actually be a beach/shore rod (that's what a quick google suggested).

Then I've got 2 reels. One came with the 2nd rod (I think an old boss bought these, used them once then gave up, so we took them for our boat).

Reels:

'Shakespeare omni 2000-020 - Gear ratio 3.1:1 capacity 80yds 6lbs test'

'Razor 30 LBS/YDS 6/210 8/170 10/120
omm/M 0.20/230 0.25/150 0.30/110
KG/M 3/190 4/150 5/110
GEAR RADIO 5.0:1'

I've got quite a few tackle shops around me where I can buy bits and bobs and hopefully get some advice if need be. I've also got plenty of stuff for making up rigs, it's really just the reels and rods that I'm concerned about.

Didn't catch shit today btw. I got that hit from the gar on the frog and had one other small bass bite. I need to figure out the barometer thing and learn when the good fishin times are. I was using a jig a bit today too and a weedless Texas rigged crawdad in hopes I could get something deeper but no luck.

I'm still skeptical about those weedless rigs, even with the proper baitholder hooks. Seems like the fish has to hit the bait just right for the hook to pop through the soft plastic.
>>
>>717712

Stren Extra Strength 6lb Mono It's only temporary. I'll probably go with a 10lbs braid. Don't plan on respooling for another week or so. Thinking of even sticking with with the 6lbs though, I really like it so far; makes fights a bit more exciting

It isn't that expensive to spool a rod. Plus Bass Pro and Dick's will have Power Pro and Spider Wire on sale 20%+ off a lot. Or I have seen buy one, get one half off a lot. I just keep an eye out and try to buy it when they have the sales.
>>
>>717748
>>717749
Plus braid really isn't that expensive in the long run since it doesn't turn to shit after a season like mono. You can run braid for years before it will show any signs of losing strength.

Just put a long mono backing on it if you only have like 50yds of braid left.

10lb is nice on 1000 series reels. I prefer a little lighter for true ultralights though. With 6lb or 8lb I can really toss 1/8oz lures and get decent distance on 1/16oz.

>>
>>717776
Ehh if you say so. 4lb mono isn't so bad as long as you are careful. I have hooked cats on 4lb tho and had to lift them out of the water with my hands.

I'm diggin the 6lb braid because I can cast better than 4lb mono and have that lil extra security. But I don't blame you for wanting to run mono on the ultralight. At least 4-6lb mono is manageable. I can't stand fishing for anything with 12lb+ mono. Knots and everything just seem so shitty after using braid and the memory just makes it a clusterfuck.

I really wish my Sienna 500 was a 1000 though. That was a mistake going so small. It's fine with a 5' rod and 6lb braid but just feels so goofy fishing with it.

>>
>>717782
Have you used a 500? You have the 1000, right? I'm down with that size. I have another small Quantum reel and I used to pretty much use that and the Sienna for all my pond fishing but I always wished the Sienna was just one step larger. With the 500, just cranking the handle feels so strange because it is tiny. And it doesn't hold shit for line. Probably less than 100yds of 4lb mono before it wants to nest up on casts. That's originally why I put the 6lb braid on it, so I could actually get close to 150yds on it.

Texas rigged plastics are not really about the fishes lips popping the hook through when it "bites", it's more about the fish taking the whole bait in its mouth, and then when you set the hook it's forced back through the plastic against the fishes closed mouth.

Mass is Fridays by noon. Been stocking for 2 weeks now.

It's too warm already though. The largemouth bass were biting like crazy when the water was the coolest in Jan and Feb. probably like 60s. Now I feel like it's warming up and the largemouth aren't around as much unless the conditions are right but it isn't quite warm enough for peacocks or those cichlids to start eating good. I haven't caught one of those Mayans in a couple months. The gar are out and about though.
>>
>>717814
ah yes I forgot about your hatchery gifs. apologies.

>>717817
MA has a great trout program.

>ice too thin to walk on
>not enough open ice to fish
>tail waters non-existent so I can't flyfish (what I originally went to do)
>>
>>717822
alll good, i just sent out my reapplication yesterday , stupid anxious over it i love that job its like raising 250thousand babies, you find one pond you get attatched too that you take your time feeding etc, ponds have personalities sometimes,
>>
>>717823
>3/4 tank of gas
Jeez, either your car is really fuel inefficient, you have a small tank, or you went really far.
>>
>>717825
oh man I would love to do that
>>
>>717827
Combination of driving really far and going up a ton of hills.

Is it so goddamn hard to get a dry fly wet around here?!
>>
>>717823
>decide I want to go fishing
> don't really feel like taking truck anywhere far
>grab a rod or two and my bucket
>walk a mile to nearby pond and cath pickerel and bass
Or
> walk a mile and a half to the river to catch browns and rainbows maybe some other shit

>>717831
It's great
I'd rather stay back and feed and clean mkst of the time but I also don't mind going out and running fish to put them in the rivers
>>
>>717839

>>717840
>>717835

>>
>>717839
Fuckin tripfags deleting their posts because they used the wrong trip
>>
>>717835
I mean, I live a 15 minute drive from being in the Provo river but I'll be damned if I have to yell at a bunch of German businessmen to not walk through the part of the river I'm drifting again.
>>
>>717841
see the post right above yours, not sure about maine but if you feel like moving to ct il put in a good word for you as long as you can lift 40 lbs easily and can run a bit the 2 other new seasonal i got hired with were both older guys one was a hard worker but the other not too much, still a great guy
>>
>>717842
As they say, "Never mix fishing and politics."
>>717840
there are a few hatcheries in my town, going to apply to them this week. hell what do I have to lose.
>>

>>
>>717849
I wish you the best of luck!
>>
>>717852
thanks , its just seasonal but hatchery experience is good for down the road getting a ful time job even if it isnt in my state where do you live where theres multiple hatcheries et me bum a spot on your couch so i can get full time hatcher work
>>
>>717854
Saco/Biddeford area. There are a few within 15 miles I know off the top of my head.

The hatchery experience could help you if you ever wanted to become a registered guide, conservation officer, wardern, or park officer.

That's what I would do with it at least.
>>
>>717856
yeyeye so lemme sleep on your couch for a while , plus then you get a fishing buddy how much property you got?
>>
>>717857
haha if only it was that easy.

It's cheap to live up here, you could get an apartment easy with minimal work. hell if you could get a hatchery job prior to coming up and you weren't a complete shit I might be inclined to rent a room. Otherwise I know where you could camp comfortably for the warm season. You can also sleep on the beach here.
>>
>>717861
how much would rent be there? here its difficult to get anthing under $800 a month, so thats total shit
>>
>>717864
you can get rooms on the cheap. I won't divulge into my personal financial information; but look around on craigslist.
>>
>>717868
im going to eep working here, then look into Michigan since theres a hatcher there ive looked a bit into
>>
>>717870
I want to do it in Utah.
>>
>>717871
michigan is neat, plus theres a lake i always vacationed on every year and the hatchery is nearby that
>>
Hey I'm not dead just sick enough to wish I was. I've been asleep all day

Here's the release clip
Your leader has a swivel on it and is 7-10 feet long maybe more
You put the two wire prongs through the swivel then clip the snap at the top to the "anchor line" with your live fish (bait) on the hooks, then slide it down the line so it's splashing on the surface and enticing to bigger fish

And here is the anchor
I suppose you could make one with copper wire so it bends more easily and have a steel wire lead for the first few feet so you can snag it in the rocks but be prepared to lose some lead
You bend the wire bits up so it digs in the sand and it weighs about 8 ounces
Sorry I'm shit with metric outside of cm and mm
>>
>>717973
>>717975
That makes more sense now. I dont completelt understand the connection with the leader swivel clip.

It attaches the leader like this so it can release from the anchor line while you fight the fish

The pink wire would be your anchor line in this pic.
The fish bites and pulls your rig free of the anchor line so you are only fighting the fish and not trying to slide it up the anchor line.
>>
>>718010
I see now, but how do you cast this? Its cast off of two rods and reels and that sounds like a clusterfuck.
>>
>>716988
The markings on the WWII swords are usually under the handle.
Often but not always, those katanas are cut down from much older swords. You can tell when you take the handles off-the makers' marks are there. It's not good for collector value, but you can't do anything about that now.
>>
>>717003
Wasn't the Japs that did that, we did.

The mum is the imperial symbol, and acter the war it was done on the captured guns to show that they were not Imperial Japanese property anymore. As a result, Arisakas with an intact mum command a little more collector value, but not very much. There are a LOT more intact mum Arisakas around than originally thought.

I just put some ballistol on my moving reel bits. I couldnt for my life find how to disassemble it.

I also did use ballistol to wipe down the little line guide on the bail that the line contacts when youre reeling it in. Can i spool my braid on it now or will it pick up the smell ensuring i never catch a fish on it.
>>
>>718120
What is that, oil? Any reason for doing it on that little line guide?

>shoulda used WD-40
It drives the fish crazy I hear

>>718123
>WD-40

hush you
>>
fuggin snow. Doesn't Mother Nature have a calendar?
>>
>>718044
No it's not casted, it just slides down the line.
>Heave anchor
>Set it
>Rig fighting rod
>Bait up
>Slide rig down anchor line

I should mention you need to be on a long pier for this to work right.

I could totally rig that at the pier by my house (if I ever fished saltwater). How heavy of a weight and line do you run on the anchor rod?
>>
snowed like a mofucka last night.

going to take today and check out this creek near my house should be fun with the snow.
>>
alright northeast friends, i dont normally fish saltwater, but in about a month, im going to be going down to the shore in rhodes island, no kayak and no great fishing, but what should i target that time of the year i can post picturesof the general area il be fishing
>>
>>718202
You'll need at least 20 pound test and the weight is 6-10 ounces. You'll need at least a 9 foot rod for the anchor rod
Then your fighting rod will need a lot of heavy line (300+ yards of 40 pound test minimum) because sharks the size of you, cobia, king mackerel, and Lord knows what other shit will come for your bait.
