Yeah they just stocked the farmington with some nice browns. Not sure where tho. Probably just go for pike
>>
>>708352
>I'm not stocking yet
Can't w8 to hopefully get rehired at hatchery
>>
>>708356
This Asshole gov'na malloy wants to close the hatcheries to save money.

I say they they drug test anyone who receives state assistance but probably not cost effective. I just can't stand seeing people with gold chains and new iPhone using an ebt card
>>
>>708365
I'm the same way, my neighbor (been fishing for 60 years) believes malloy doesn't actually want to close the hatchery, but is bringing it up because he knows that the fishing community won't let it happen, so he can say " well I tried"
I'm not so sure desu

Welp at crystal lake middletown.
See if the pickerel are awake yet.
>>

Is that a good place for pickerel ?
I'm digging a small pond in my backyard and want to throw in some pickerel (hopefully redfin because they don't get too big ) but I would be fine with chain
>>
>>708388
Lots of pickerel and some decent bass is all I've caught here. But never this early in the year

we dont have koi, havent had for years, im going to put some catfish and maybe pikerel in there ( if i can get them small enough ) as for the brook , digging is terrible, its super muddy and im digging 100% by hand but il have a place to fish right in my backyard
>>
>>708469
Saw a small school of little catfish once in this swampy little Cove of on the ct riv.
I was able to scoop up at least 30 at a time in my hands. Just left them tho.

My dad saw the same shit once and brought them home and put them in a 20 gal tank. After a couple months the biggest one was the only one left

im going to put a bunch in the dirt pond, and maybe some in the other one, though, yellow perch and pickeral are my 2 main speies i want to target, if i could get a small bowfin or two that would be cool too

you ever fish secret lake in avon? i think thats goingto be the first place i take out my kayak this year

>>708541
Off 177?
>>
>>708548
yeah very limited access but great pan fish pond, , some bass a few 4-5 poun ders ( though not common) chance of a trout or two , though not likley, and some pickerel , nice pond to relax on in the kayak etc
>>
>>708553
I checked it out once but yeah need a kayak for tha t spot. I need a rack for my car and keep my kayak on it. It doesn't fit well in truck either so I keep it local most the time
>>
>>708557
yes it is 100% a kayak only spot, , you go anyplace in the farmington, avon canton area i should try out?
>>
>>708562
Best spot I've been out there is just under the dam off Spielman highway. Would go today but my idiot friend doesn't have a license and is puss in out about trout spots
>>
>>708574
i dont fish trout out of season ( especially sine i worked for the state
>>
>>708492
Years ago I got a baby channel cat in my minnow bucket when I went to the bait shop. Ended up dropping him in the 75gal, had him for a few months. Once he got up to like 8" long and was eating anything and everything he could fit in his mouth, I let him go in some lake.
>>
>>708574
you mean off of 179? i think that section of river is catch and release year round so it isnt even out of season , plus in my years of fishing ive only ever run into one co and tat was opening day
>>
>>708583
I wouldn't keep them now just want to see if there biting. Might stop before work tommarow
>>
>>708595
Yes it actually is a seasonal tma down to the 177 bridge in unionville
If weather is nice I know where I'm going tomorrow
>>
>>708600
You can still fish there though right?
>>
>>708605
Yeah seasonal tma means catch and release between Sept 1st and opening day
(If what I know is correct the THE ntire West Branch is )

Rocky hill boat launch ct riv
>>
>>708628
Damn, I kinda wanted to go out today but didn't get off work until like 4:30. And I am supposed to be at a meeting by 5am tomorrow morning (which won't happen). At least tomorrow is Friday.

I wonder if they will ever yell at me for never showing up to meetings at work. Had one Monday at 5:30, walked in around 6:00 right as they were finishing up.
>>
>>708605
Under the new regulations, the area that is currently year-round “catch-and-release only” (the existing West Branch Farmington River TMA) is expanded approximately 1.5 miles upstream to the foot bridge abutments just below “Whittemore pool” and remains “catch-and-release only.” The rest of the West Branch Farmington River and the Farmington River down to the Route 177 bridge in Unionville will be managed as a “seasonal” TMA, open year-round with a 2 trout/day, 12 inch minimum length from 6 a.m. on Opening Day (third Saturday in April) through August 31st and “catch-and-release only” from September 1st to 6 a.m. on Opening Day. exact words from the deep website, so i guess the entire west branch down to unionville is catch and release in the off season ???
>>
>>708634
Just wondering if any parts you can get in trouble for being there with a fishing rod
>>
>>708637
interpret the text yourself , i view that as anything upriver ( west branch ) from unionville is open right now for catch and release
>>
>>708641
>>708637
Why would anything be closed to catch and release fishing? Ever?
>>
>>708643
as someone who worked in fisheries, durring stoking, and possibly spawning season we like to close sections of the river to prevent spooking fish or stop then from spawning, if the day before opening day someone goes out and catches every fish in a pool on opening day, the pool will be very slow,
>>
>>708646
I guess if you have some very sensitive and maybe endangered fish spawning, that could make sense. I've never lived anywhere with crazy rules like that.
>>
>>708651
trout mostly, thats why 4 years ago they opened most of the river to a seaonal / full time tma
>>
>>708651
I heard that salmon are spawning in the farmington river for the first time in years. So I was curious stupid question
>>
>>708654
yeah supposedly they may be, ( fingers crossed) theyre making a comeback maybe , when we were stocking ( different river i dont remember what ) we saw a salmon jump and litterally stopped for 25 min to watch for it again theyre getting more common

We had an /o/ meet in December. Good times except a bunch of people flaked at the last minute. I think we had 7 or 8 people total come through. Went to the acrade and got some food n stuff. Not enough fun cars for racing though. I was just stoked we finally had the meet.

no ive wanted to , id like to put some pickerel in some ponds, and get the population going, theres alot of ponds around here that are stunted with alot of little pan fish and nothing else

I want to get some young striped bass a put them in a lake or pond... it worked out west and there no limit on them. Against the rule tho in ct moving fish to different bodies of water.

Actually saw a half dead ale wife in lake beseck in meridian yesterday
>>
>>708905
i would have no issue moving ish if they first off are native, and seond, could get there themselves, ex if the river flooded trout pickeral etc could all get into the gravel ponds at dunning thats whiy im digging a pond in my backyard, so i dont fuck things up elsewhere, you fish tunxis mead right<? have you seen the alewives there ? both me and a grill who i worked with have found ded alewives at the mead

Yeah they Def go up the farm that far in the spring to spawn. But lake beseck isn't connected to the ocean, so somebody had to throw some in.

Hmm. Just bought this here $17 baitcaster so eventually I need to figure out what kind of rod and line to run. Probably won't do an expensive rod on that reel though. I'm not even sure when I will use the thing. I don't use baitcasters much and when I do I normally use my Revo SX.

Really wanted to grab one of those Daiwa Excelcer reels for $45. Those seemed nice.

Sure i dont think i have anything planned
kayaks at dunnings? or should we give the lakeshore a shot?
Or walking around dunnings (I walked around a week or two ago and didn't catch shit
It's not a big lake but based on what I saw today there's a handful of fish there
>>
Wherever but I'll the car so no kayak
>>
>>714638
Depends how much you want to walk
If you want short we can just do lakeshore, if you don't mind walking a couple miles we could walk dunnings then lakeshore then back to dunnings but that's a bit of a hike
>>
Well maybe I could get the truck....
>>
Anyways I'll check in tomarrow we could plan something. My dreams are about start whether I'm sleeping or not
>>
>>714643
Sounds good, I probably don't want to kayak anyways since water is still cold and the water level will be up, we can just poke around lakeshore for an hour or two probably
