I did once. I was hanging out on the top of some hill smokin blunts a few years back, just leaning on some chain link fence. I had my hand on the post and the cap was loose. There was a string with some container hanging off it in attached to the cap.
At the time, I didn't know shitting in it was an option. Biggest regret of my life.

I found one in a metal light pole next to a subway once. I saw that the rectangular box on the bottom of it was loose so I moved it and there was a glass cylinder. Nothing great inside, just a list of names of those who had passed it around.
